Shower leak - bit of a mare

Tldr - sealed most of the leaks but one remains, timing seems to take a while after last shower, and it goes from dry and soaking so hard to pin point where it's coming from. Almost looks like it's been misted or sprayed. Or condensation. Wierd.

Shower leak - bit of a mare

Had a shower leak. The usual thing with silicone needed redoing and the grouting wasn't the best. Redid all the silicone and regrouted the poor sections. Then discovered the trap hadn't been fitted properly, so redid that but had to replace the seals and top section but couldn't replace the...

    Turning conservatory into an extension.

Doing something similar at the moment albeit not using the full footprint of the Connie and for the bit we are building on we are ripping it all out incl the floor and starting over. For the remaining bit we are not building over, we are removing dwarf walls to ground level and using it as a...

shower trap - not sure if this seal is correct

Thanks Ended up having to chip away the (soaked) chipboard which seemed to be bonded to the underside of the shower tray to get the trap to fit properly. The pro who fitted this stuff originally seemingly didn't notice the 5mm gap or maybe they did considering the amount of sealant that had...

shower trap - not sure if this seal is correct

Having discovered that my shower tray was leaking badly i'm resealing it and replacing the trap. I've got a new trap but can't replace the body which has basically been built into the underside of the shower tray. Anyway, I bought a 90mm trap, but the opening on the base is 93mm diameter, and...

Heating upgrade - opinions on these options please?

All 3 said its 2-3 day job, and reusing the existing pipework. Where the pipework surfaces up in the upstairs for the tanks, they are cutting at floor level and joining up the 22mm pipes. The rest of it is all there, in a dedicate 2m x 2m utility room right next to the main bathroom. I don't...

Heating upgrade - opinions on these options please?

Thanks Muggles. 15 rads currently but will be installing underfloor heating (approx. 50sqm) in near future. The Vaillant and Worcester guys were both off the Heatgeeks site, and neither did a pressure test but the Vaillant guy was the one who got the flow rate snafu. I asked both the heatgeeks...

Heating upgrade - opinions on these options please?

Its a 5 bed detached as it says in the first post. Thanks.

Heating upgrade - opinions on these options please?

Its an ancient boiler, non condensing. All the suggested boilers above seems to be a similar output of each other. I don't live in a mansion, so 24kw probably OK. I'm really more interested in the pricing (seems high to me) and general opinions on the boiler solutions themselves. Is one...

Heating upgrade - opinions on these options please?

Hi All I need to upgrade an old open vented system as I need to remove all the tanks etc from an upstairs room, and have space downstairs to locate a new cylinder if needed, next to the existing floor standing system boiler. I've had 3 firms out to quote, one gave two options (hence the four...

    uPVC window latch mechanism rattle

Does anyone know why latch mechanisms inside the sash would rattle under normal use, e.g. opening a window and it rattles, give the sash a little thump and it rattles. When it's closed/engaged it's silent. Is there a way to adjust it out? I asked the installer and he unfortunately went from...

Feather edge - concrete posts or timber?

Thanks. So it sounds like no reason to avoid concrete posts the . I won't see em anyway, the neighbour will (not really, his garden-wide shed hides them).

Feather edge - concrete posts or timber?

No, concrete post behind the featheredge, so from the front face it looks like a featheredge fence not a slot in panel fence..

Feather edge - concrete posts or timber?

Need approx 10m of fencing and I like featheredge, but want it to last, so am considering concrete posts instead of timber. These would sit behind the featheredge "face" so not the slot in panels but a continuous run of feather edge. In theory it looks the same from the nice side. Tis there any...

    Confused... invented Vs thermal store

Thanks Quote in, £6.1k for a Worcester 4000 18KW system boiler and 250l solar cylinder. Insanely expensive I think considering I had a £5.5k quote for a veismann 222-f to be installed? That £6k doesn't include a power flush either, which is on the extras list and I can choose from a chemical...

    Yellow flames on hob

Yeah, agree, except in this case i'd asked for a safety check.

    Confused... invented Vs thermal store

Thanks - will do. Interestingly the 1st guy measured the flow and pressure with a little device. However the tap he used was at the furthest end of the plumbing to the stop-tap as its an outdoor one, and didn't repeat the test with other outlets open (neither did he, now i think of it, verify...

    Confused... invented Vs thermal store

Thanks all. Am getting someone else in to advise. After a chat they've already said they "hate" worcester boilers and always fit Vailant. He did ask, at least, how long I expected to be able to use both showers and suggested an accumulator may be needed. The other guy said I didn't need one, and...

    Confused... invented Vs thermal store

Thanks Ian. I don't think it's up to me though particularly, as all I'm doing is choosing an installer and giving them my functional requirements. How they design the system is up to them. I don't hugely have an interest in what boiler is installed as long as it's a good brand. I've been clear...

    Confused... invented Vs thermal store

There was no room by room heat loss calculation, he didn't even go into most of the rooms. Is that what is supposed to happen then, and if it didn't, what does that mean? He is on heat geeks or whatever it's called btw, and seemed to know his stuff. All they do is heating. No plumbing or...
