Back door threshold, porcelain tiles and beading

Quick q for the experts.... This beading got lifted when the old porcelain tiles came up. The door was new and the fitter put the beading there as there was a slight gap. Now the new porcelain tiles are down and up to the threshold, is it best to put the beading back? Thanks

Plug in LEDs controlled by light switch

Hi all, About a year ago an electrician fitted a plug socket (no switch on it) behind a utility room kitchen base unit so we can plug some plinth lights in (LED strip lights) so we can now control them via a wall switch. I believe the plug socket was connected to the lighting circuit. Works...

Draft in kitchen via main water pipe hole into house (pic)

We've always had a draft coming from behind the kitchen units and ripping it out today found the culprit. Quite a large hole (not sure if this is normal) but my questions are: 1. Can you fill it 2. If so, what's best to use? some kind of foam? Thanks

    Cabling through a wall

Thanks for all these replies, much appreciated. I'm thinking of passing through the joist to the right and then through the wall that way. Missing the electric cables altogether. Some more holes in the ceiling ;-)

    Cabling through a wall

Hello all, I wasn't sure where to post as its not an electrical question as such, but as sparkers do a lot of cabling I'm hoping someone can help. Here's a pic of the void space directly above our kitchen. On the other side of the brick wall is the loft space of what was a garage (now...

Thanks Taylortwocities If I left that big gap there, then the sparky will be able to leave cables in the general area and fish on completion of boarding?

Fitting Downlights - Best way to prep for electrician

Hope you guys can advise. We are having a complete renovation in the kitchen / dining room where we've just had a load bearing wall removed. We want an electrician install 3 or 4 rows of spots running one end (kitchen) to the other (dining room) You'll see the plasterboard pulled back for the...

Supporting Wall Removal / RSJ and Electrical Cables

Sorry, looks like I had a right blonde moment there. 178x102x19 UB S355 is listed in the Structural report for the beam (I'm assuming the 178 is the depth?) Actual depth of the joist is 195mm Also just noticed this sticky stuff on one of the cables, should I be concerned? Cheers

Supporting Wall Removal / RSJ and Electrical Cables

I've decided the both ceilings are coming down now. They are artexed anyway so was going to skim. New boards and fresh skim should give a much nicer finish. In doing this I'm hoping whatever the builders advise a complete blank canvas as far as the ceiling goes will help. Any cutting of cables...

Supporting Wall Removal / RSJ and Electrical Cables

Thanks for the replies and link. If I was to drill through the steel or got the fabricators to do it, would this cause an issue with the council when they come out to inspect? Would I first have to go through the structural engineer for him to agree?

Supporting Wall Removal / RSJ and Electrical Cables

Hi flameport Yes forgot to mention, its going to be flush with the ceiling. Steel = 178x102x19 Existing Joist depth = 179 Does that mean there's going to be 10mm free below the steel? Thanks

Found a capped gas pipe after moving kitchen units

Thanks oldbuffer. There's a rad on the other side of the wall which needs moving first anyway so an extra task for the plumber. I'll let the builders know so whoever they sub out for the plumbing job will be properly qualified and aware. Here's another pic where you can see the island top...

Supporting Wall Removal / RSJ and Electrical Cables

Hi all, Having a steel put in next week and having the wall removed. As this is all new to me I'm unsure how it all pans out with the electrical cables. The pics are of the same part of the wall but different sides (kitchen/diner) what's the usual course of action here? Can you route a...

Found a capped gas pipe after moving kitchen units

Looks like the previous owners have moved their gas hob to where it resides now (central island) The capped pipe in the picture was discovered when I move some kitchen cabinets yesterday, ready for the wall you can also see is removed. I'm assuming as its capped there's still gas in the pipe...
