thank you, yes it only takes one lot of water in and then freezes. i will check the valves. is it normal for the drum to do 1/2 turn then stop, as sometimes it does this for a few mins before seeming to run normally?

Hi all, my hotpoint thingy has developed a weird fault, on starting it takes a little water in and then stops, sometimes the drum will turn 1/4 turn then stop, then go the other way after a couple of minutes, it has the door locked and wash light on, then it just seems to freeze, any ideas...

it will be the choke as they age the laminations loosen and vibrate

i am assuming that 8kw is the output, therefore its input would be around 3kw maximum, 4mm or 6mm would be fine, 2.5mm would be pushing it a little, you wouldnt need a 63a isolator, 25a would be fine

the choke / ballast has gone short cicuit, throw the fitting away and get a new one

if they are 18/20w lamps you can run them in series, but you woud need a 40w choke and series starters. you could get a 2x 18w hf ballast which would run both lamps for about £20

although no help really, a lot of the IMI units i used to fit had a fuse in the condenser which was normally 3amp which protected the crankcase heater, fans and evaporator.

if its locking out, very unlikely to be your valves etc. more like you have run out of oil, or oil pump failure

do not worry about it, as long as the meter seals are intact. :D
