    moving CU

Well i never said it wud be fixed to the cupboard. It will be on an independant board inside the cupboard. In my opinion it is better out of the way rather than low down where little hands can fiddle. I think its a compromise and you have to weigh it up. By the way can anyone recommend a...

    moving CU

i agree with garymo. as u can see in the pic the cables come down the wall so it means just shortening the cables. Also most CU's are in some kind of cupboard so wot difference if its a kitchen wall unit? I can just leave the back panel off and fit it to the wall Its gonna be changed to a...

    moving CU

ok. why split concentric rather than normal 16mm tails? Can you give me an idea of a suitable switch fuse cz the ones i know of are really expensive

    moving CU

got a CU in a kitchen base unit. 16mm tails come thru the wall from the cut out which is in a box outside. Got to move the CU to the wall unit directly above where it is at the moment. Is there a maximum distance that it can be moved from the cut out and wot are the rules on protecting the...

    RCD testing

i've installed a 100mA TD RCD in place of the existing voltage trip. Sockets are on a seperate 30mA RCD circuit. Readings are fine until i test the 100mA RCD. When for instance i test the cooker radial for trip times, i'm getting roughly 300ms on a 1x test. But on 5x it dosnt trip. when i test...

    earth supply?

yea thats wot i thought. anyway i did wot u suggested and did a loop test on the terminal block and still got a high reading (150 ohms) and so its TT. Still some very interesting thoughts on the whole thing

oh right. wot do u mean by not suitable?

    earth supply?

i have a TT system which has a RCD etc. At the service head there is a earthing block sticking out the side of the kind u find in pme earthing types. there is nothing connected to it and so if i connected an earth to it and did a Ze test and get a low reading, then i can presume that the link...

converting a spur to ringmain socket in kitchen/utility room

nice pic !! wot about instruments to test RCD's and EFLI etc? How long have they been around?

    time delay or not?

yea i know that. by the way i am getting readings of between 330 and 440 ohms for EFLI depending on the weather! NICEIC recommend 200 max. if i cant get it under wot do i do? just record the result? everythings on an RCD anyway

    time delay or not?

thing is that the existing CU is just a 4 way wylex with sockets, lights, cooker and immersion heater. then theres anothere 2 way with with 2 15A fuses for storage heaters and then yet another 1 way with a 15A fuse for another storage heater. There is a 30mA RCD which feeds those heaters. Not...

yea thats wot i thought. cheers . already enquired about pme

    time delay or not?

hi got a TT system which currently has an old voltage trip. no chance of pme. wanna add a 2way consumer unit for the sockets and shower with a 30mA RCD. Gonna put in a 100mA RCD to replace the trip. Does this one need to be time delayed?

    Wall socket from connector unit

Is it acceptable practice to run a ring from an old cooker radial? I thought the ring would have to go back to the CU
  19. O

    Ze

yes thats right. main earth disconnected. test between phase incoming, consumer unit off and earth. test Zs with plug in loop tester

    Ze

hi is it possible to have a Ze reading thats higher than a Zs reading? 40ohms Zs and 90 Ze.
