    burying plastic backboxes

thanks good points about the metal back boxes but good to know I wouldnt be breaking any regulation. If I used a metal back box would it have to be earthed to just the socket/cable.

    stagnent water

thanks dextrous I posted my last comment before reading yours Im fairly happy about how I'll do it at the friends. Out of curiosity does any document/regulation mention an actual length? If not I'll just use common sense (we are only talking about a few cms anyway

    stagnent water

thanks but that hasnt really answered my question. There must be hundereds and thousands of situations (many unknown to a resident) in which a T junction is capped, rather than ...say replaced with an L shape, so that the reduntant pipe is completely removed. Ps if it were my place I would...

    burying plastic backboxes

If you 'chase in' a surface mounted cable, are you allowed to bury a plastic backbox thus creating a flush fitting (or must it be a metal back box). My question is partly curiosity and partly for use in the future as different parts of this house get improved / plastered / decorated. Thanks I...

    stagnent water

Hello my plumbing is reasonable. I am about to remove part of a supply for a friend and can easily cap pipe as close as possible to a T junction. It is rarely mentioned but my question is...how great is the risk of stagnent water in a length of pipe which is capped and never run off periodically...

    concrete base in conservatory

thanks for the advice I used a latex levelling compound in the end 3 x 25kg bag at about £30 each! I used my green wheely bin to mix it. It wasnt as runny as I'd hoped so I had a bit of a race against time to push it around (I found a sweeping brush to be very useful in the initial stages)...

    concrete base in conservatory

not trying to raise floor specifically (I just mentioned that it cant be raised too much) I thought ply would be a quick (cheap?) solution as I said I havent the time or space to get involved with mixing stuff and making a bit of a mess (cemeting/plastering etc is not my strong pt)..also wife...

    concrete base in conservatory

I have moved into a house with a large conservatory at back with a concrete floor - not very smooth but seems sound and dry. I dont have enough clearance with doors to build a joist structure so I intend screwing down 1cm thick plyboard and then putting lino over this.... is 1cm thick enough...

can bathroom extrator fan be fed from shower circuit!

(I have been off internet for a while) thanks for the straight forward answer NO.. I think some people missed the point of my question Ps I still dont understand why its NOT dangerous to run say a plastic radio (with no earth in lead) from the socket which often comes with a cooker socket)...

can bathroom extrator fan be fed from shower circuit!

sorry you are trying to educate me but I need it spelling out. Do you advise against my intentions. If it went into lighting circuit as it has no earth does your same question stand, or are lighting circuits ok in this respect. Sorry again I mean a cooker circuit can have a 13amp socket spured...

can bathroom extrator fan be fed from shower circuit!

Please dont be too shocked by this question - I have given it some thought..I have recently bought an extractorfan from B and Q to replace one in my new house. I wish I had bought one with a pull chord - could have gone straight into ring main supplied near bathroom. Anyway I ws seduced by the...

3 neutrals together in a light

yes but normally 2 of the blacks(I wont use the word neutral) go into one section with the blue for bulb, then one black (really a live) gets paired with the brown for the bulb. What I observed was the 3 blacks together

3 neutrals together in a light

Here is a quick question so that I can improve my knowledge.. I am familiar with normal lights and the connections ie that the neutral from the switch becomes the live feed and the 3 reds are together in the 'loop' section. However today I took down in my new house a large light with fan...

height of sockets (have tried to search for this sorry)

I saw on a DIY/house program (the one in which he sprays your whole house white) that sockets have to be at a height of 45cm. Is this for new build only? I am redoing some of electrics in a 1960 semi detached...can I copy some of the existing sockets upstairs in that they are just above...
