add wireless PIR in shed to existing system - possible?

Hi, I have a wired eurosec alarm system and am looking at option to add an alarm to a detached shed. The shed is about 15-20m away from the alarm control unit, but the unit is in the loft and it would have line of sight to the shed. There is also no power in shed, and I don't really want...

Tool Advice needed - cutting the bottom of an internal door.

I have just done this with a cheap circular saw. Had a guide on it for straight line parallel to bottom of door. Not sure if this is what the pros would do,but was perfect for me.

    Scribing Skirting?

Thanks, that makes sense then. However, I mitred the last lot and that was 5 years ago, so I might risk it. As bigrob says, as a novice it actually gives a better result. Any shrinkage will hopefully be covered by caulk. Unless anyone wants to try again to convince me otherwise? I am...

    Scribing Skirting?

I need to fit some fairly plain skirting - the square type with rounded edge at the top. It isn't wood, whatever the other type is. So, the correct way to do this is to scribe the internal corners and mitre (45degs) the external corners. I've played about with some test pieces and have...

door frame not straight - best practice

OK, I'll see but I am pretty sure the archetrave has been glued rather than nailed (both actually) - wont it just rip the plaster off? Planing - I'd need to plan the top and bottom, not the middle. Middle would be easy obviously. As for hinge side it is going to be 2 small doors, so both...

door frame not straight - best practice

Thanks, that makes sense. I did think about trying to manipulate the frame, but the architrave is on now and I think I'd just do more damage than it's worth.

door frame not straight - best practice

I am about to fit double louvred (is that the right spelling) doors on a built in cupboard. The door frame is actually a standard size door frame. On the left side the frame seems pretty straight, but on the right side it bows outwards in the middle. Not by a huge amount - approx 5mm...

    coving

OK, thanks Guys. I'll press on with a mist coat and sort the coving later. Which is good, as it buys me a bit more time in the meanwhile.

    coving

Hi All, Have a couple of questions re some coving I want to put up. We already have quite plain coving up. I can't remember the name, but the most plain stuff you can get, 100mm size I think. We have extended the room now so I need to put up new to match/blend existing. 1. What order do I...

    Laminating loft joists

Thanks all. What is the 'proper' option then? A whole new bigger beam side by side with the old ones presumably? I suppose it will cost slightly more with materials, but effort wise will be about the same. As for insulation, I dont need to get it quite to regs level, and anything is...

    Laminating loft joists

I have an existing loft with beams/joists 2inch by 3inch, with boards over and used for light storage. Full width of house is about 7m, with brick supporting wall half way across, so weight bearing span of each joist is about 3.5m. From what I've read these joists are not really adequate...

what power router for kitchen worktops?

Thanks guys. There is some further info I should provide, but didn't initially, as I didn't want to influence your advice. I did my current kitchen with a silverline router and jig. It went OK, and I was more than happy with the end result. Easily better than the other examples I've seen on...

what power router for kitchen worktops?

I need to get a router to do some joints on laminate worktops, and also a couple of other minor projects I have. The worktops will be the most demanding. What is the minimum wattage I can get away with for the worktop joints? I dont want to spend too much, as I wont be using on a regular...

    Soapy water

We have just tried to use our kitchen tap to fill a glass of water, and it is coming out with bubbles in it. Bubbles didn't dissapear, and appeared to be a bit 'soapy' It may be coincidence, but the washing machine is on at the same time. Is it possible that the washing machine could pass...

    New boiler/central heating after extension

Last time it was checked pressure was OK, flow was poor. Pressure and flow were both OK at the main in the street, as checked by water company. So I assume we need new pipe to get the flow through into the house. It was 5 years ago though, so can't remember numbers.

    New boiler/central heating after extension

Sorry, I wont know pressure and flow rates until after the extension is complete and the mains pipe coming into house is replaced.

    New boiler/central heating after extension

Thanks. Yes, we wont be running a bath at the same time as 2 showers, so thats OK. There is a possibilities of stuff like dishwashers, toilets, washing machines kicking in with cold feeds, which I guess would affect flow/pressure to a combi more than a boiler with a storage tank. Or would it...

    New boiler/central heating after extension

Thanks Guys - sorry its been a while. To recap we will have a bathroom with bath and seperate shower, and also an on-suite with shower. edit - quoted for 12 rads, plus underfloor heating approx 6*3m The options I've been given are: 1. A vailant 831 condensing combi - will that be enough...

    New boiler/central heating after extension

We are extending our 3 bed detached single bathroom hosue to a 5 bed. Currently we have a non-condensing non-combi ideal classic boiler, with 4 large rads and 3 small rads. Shower is an electric one. The heating has never been great, and I'd like to upgrade the boiler AND all pipework...

    replacement room thermostat wiring

Thanks guys. All working now. I guess the old one must have used power off the mains for it's own operation, hence the neutral - mine is battery powered. Should have worked that out myself, but understand now anyway. Fuse is also OK - boiler is fused and does have a switch next to it...
