New external door and exposed cavity- to fill or not to fill

Expanding foam to "fill" cut down then tile over. Depending on size of cavity depends on what expansion foam you need.

Space between boiler flue and extractor hood flue.

Thanks fluffster. With regards to the louvred vent, do these reduce efficiency of the extraction system as effectively it's an obstacle to the free venting of air, or is the obstruction so minor it makes no difference?

    Water under floorboards

Don't! If it's just groundsoil under the house then pumping the water will also pump sediment leaving a nice big hole for your house to subside into!

    Water under floorboards

No probs, but i'm not an expert please remember! Just a thought though, water alone doesn't smell "musty", it's only when something has got damp. You need to find out what has got damp and is making the musty smell, then you can act appropriately. Extra airbricks won't really help with standing...

    Water under floorboards

How far below the boards is the water level? This sounds like it could be a rather major problem!

I will switch it off and contact the landlord. He will have it replaced to ensure you don't come back?

Shower electrics in surface mount conduit

No, they're not designed to accept trunking. They're designed to accept a cable and a pipe! The trunking (or conduit) is a way of getting the water and electricity supplies to the shower whilst providing physical protection, and also some cosmetic benefits. The trunking sits flush against the...

Shower electrics in surface mount conduit

Actually, sorry, it's trunking in my house, not conduit. It's butted up against the ceiling and the shower case (at the top and the bottom) and sealed around with a bit of white mastic. The bottom of the trunking is cut at a slight angle to match the shower case.

    What thickness steel plate??

I'm just saying, there are some funny people in this world! And tbh, if someone trawled his posts, and there was one about his "new 42in plasma tv" and another with his address, it does incur a certain risk for the poster.

Shower electrics in surface mount conduit

It's exactly as you have described in my house, no problems, actually looks quite neat. Certainly a better option than gouging your nicely tiled walls.

help! need guidance on WHERE or WHO to go to (joist removal)

No, but he was evidently asking for advice on how to do the job, so evidently considering quoting. His response, upon seeing the job, should have simple been that he wasn't qualified to do the structural work but would be happy to quote for the stud wall and plasterboarding/ plastering work...

help! need guidance on WHERE or WHO to go to (joist removal)

With respect, I assume from this quote that you are a tradesman. If I had asked a tradesman to quote for a job, and that tradesman had promptly headed for an internet forum to ask advice on removing structural elements of my house, I would be very worried. The fact you are asking says a lot...

Space between boiler flue and extractor hood flue.

My concern was primarily at times when the hood is off but the boiler on e.g early morning during winter. Would there be any risk of gases seeping back through the extractor hood flue?

Space between boiler flue and extractor hood flue.

My boiler is in my kitchen, it is a Worcester Bosch 24LE. I would like to install and extractor hood in the space next to it, venting to outside. However, this will mean that the boiler flue and extractor flue will be quite close on the outside wall. Is there a minimum distance I should aim...

    Dulux all seasons

Is that, erm, effect, on the property as a result of cavity wall insulation, wall ties or something else? Was considering Cav insulation but having seen that very doubtful now!

    Fixing into expanding foam

Thanks for all the suggestions. Picked up gear tonight to pass threaded rod through to each side, with nuts, washers and plastic caps. Will add photos when I do the job tomorrow.
