    Broken ceiling joist in loft

Hi folks, Hoping the members of this forum can calm me down slightly after what I found today! We have a loft conversion in our house but this does not stretch out to gutter level, however we have access to that space (eaves?) for water tanks/boarded-out storage etc. Was crawling around in...

Loud momentary clunk when boiler turns off - any ideas?

Sorry, I've seen him use a smoke thing in the past to check that it'd drawing up the chimney ok, so assumed that was a flue test. I'll go rooting underneath in a bit and see what it looks like. I suspect he's here for less than an hour when the service is done - he does bring a vacuum in though!

Loud momentary clunk when boiler turns off - any ideas?

Well it gets an annual service from a local gas company but not sure how much it is stripped down to be honest. It does get a flue test but no idea what a spillage test looks like so don't know if that happens. Would the steambubble happen every time the boiler turns off?

Loud momentary clunk when boiler turns off - any ideas?

Thanks for the pointers folks. I don't think it's the pump as that is located upstairs next to the hot water cylinder, and the boiler is downstairs so guess it would have to be a mighty clunk that it makes to come down the pipes so far. I'll have a good look at the burners tonight and see if...

Loud momentary clunk when boiler turns off - any ideas?

Hi, we have a Baxi back boiler, and noticed recently that whenever the boiler turns off you get a single clunking noise a second after the gas has turned off. No other noise whilst it operates other than the usual burner noise and occasional water noise, just this clunk each time the burners...

    Recommendations for kitchen lighting

Hi everyone, Kitchen refit/rebuild has recently started and I'm looking at how best to light the room. Main priority is the ceiling lights. I want some sort of recessed 'downlighter' style lights which will be going in a new vaulted ceiling alongside Velxu windows. Some of the lights will...

Flue position on next door house - is it dangerous?

Don't worry EHO are on my list! :D There are only so many phone calls I am able to make during my working day, so have been targetting those who have direct relationship with gas safety. However my wife is friends with an EHO, and on checking with her, she says there is nothing in their...

Flue position on next door house - is it dangerous?

Hi everyone, many thanks for all the further responses. It really is great to know you're all there! As for those in the trade, I can appreciate your frustration with your own industry. A small breakthrough late yesterday where another trawl of the Land Registry data showed that it had been...

Flue position on next door house - is it dangerous?

Thank you for the post, however as detailed in one of my earlier posts I have already been in contact with Gas Safe, and have sent them the photo of the installation by email in support. They said they would treat it as a neighbour complaint and could therefore only 'invite' the owner or...

Flue position on next door house - is it dangerous?

Thanks for the regulations, could be really useful when I write letters. As for the boiler, I have to assume they've tested it, but haven't seen it happen, and as far as I know it isn't running now as the house is unoccupied and it's warm weather so wouldn't come on for a frost setting etc.

Flue position on next door house - is it dangerous?

My thoughts exactly, none of them want to get involved, but they're always bleating on about being safe with gas. Then when someone actually does the right thing and tries to tell them about something unsafe, they're really not bothered. I have now moved the audible CO detector that was in...

Flue position on next door house - is it dangerous?

Hi again folks, Thanks for all the further replies. Today's update: Spoke to estate agent again: same story, not at all interested. Firstly wouldn't believe that I was next door neighbour because I'm no 12, and the next door is no.19. The fact that we're at the end of a cul-de-sac where...

Flue position on next door house - is it dangerous?

Thanks dreadnoughtheating, it is less than 2000mm off the ground. The bottom of it is 1950mm. I don't think there is actually the room to get it 2000mm+ off the ground - funny that! As for your advice, I've already emailed the photo to Gas Safe in support of my phone conversation with them...

Flue position on next door house - is it dangerous?

Like your style! Unfortunately it's locked both ends. Would the boiler fail to operate if the flue was blocked, or would the fumes get pushed back into the property?

Flue position on next door house - is it dangerous?

Thanks guys. Seems slightly underhand to suggest a CO or gas escape, because when the engineer comes it will be clear that the house is unoccupied and the boiler not on! But, it's probably less underhand than the sheister who did the work next door!

Flue position on next door house - is it dangerous?

Yep, that is a new hopper with a couple of wastes from the new bathroom stuck in the top. Pipes are bent into the hopper, no clips to wall etc, half of the pipe joints are in white and the rest in black, p*** poor job all round. Probably the same cowboy that put the boiler in.

Flue position on next door house - is it dangerous?

Thanks everyone. Struggling with this one a bit today. Estate agent refusing to talk to me. Gas Safe say they can probably arrange an inspection but will need access to the property, and need to write to the builder first to 'offer them an inspection' and so need details of the builder/owner...

Flue position on next door house - is it dangerous?

Wow thanks everyone, this is really superb advice. The major problem we have with talking to someone about it is that the property is currently unoccupied and on the market. The 'builder' hasn't been seen for a few days and suspect they've now done the bare minimum to get it on the market and...

Flue position on next door house - is it dangerous?

Powell/Ihatemyjob - just been installed in last week, not sure if it's a resite of an existing boiler or a new one. It's definitely a resite but not sure if it's new boiler or not. Reckon builder has upped and left now, not been for a few days and the 'For Sale' board has arrived. Will try to...

Flue position on next door house - is it dangerous?

Hi folks, I've linked (or does it just show the photo??) to a photo of a flue (balanced I think?) that has just been installed on the house next to us by a builder who bought it for modernisation and resale. I'm concerned by the location of the flue for a number of reasons: 1) The...
