    Replacing a basin

Hi I am looking to replace a somewhat ancient basin (nice but its had its day) with a basin cabinet. The taps should be easy enough but the the waste is very unusual (please see picture below). How can I attach the new waste outlet / trap to this thing!? Can it be done...

Adding a new batten holder to the existing light switch

Guys thats great - I thought that might be the case but I wasn't sure. I would go to the junction box but the location makes it much easier to feed off the first light. Cheers for your help

Adding a new batten holder to the existing light switch

OK what seemed simple to start with has now become trickier... The existing batten holder is somewhat decrepit so instead of buying just the extra one I've bought two. These new batten holders have ceiling rose type terminals (unlike the old batten holder) ie 2 lives, 3 loops, 3 neutrals and an...

Adding a new batten holder to the existing light switch

Wow that was quick - cheers. I've just had a look inside the batten holder and it is being fed off a junction box (and there are only 3 terminals, L N E). Can I still feed off this for the new light by connecting the new live, earth and neutral to these connectors, ie 2 wires in each terminal)...

Adding a new batten holder to the existing light switch

Hello again. I hope everyone is keeping well. I have 1 batten holder (basic ceiling rose type light fitting) and I'd like to add another 1 a few feet away, so they both come on with the same switch. I do NOT need a new switch (so please don't refer me to the reference diagram - I've already...

    2 Pole switches

Hi No they are in the living room - you know traditional colonial style ceiling fans. They work fine - the only advantage I can see in having double pole switches is presumably so that the fans can be operated by the wall switch, but they have pull cords on them anyway, so you just leave the...

    2 Pole switches

Hello again Can someone please explain what a 2 pole switch (with 3 mm contact?) is ? The reason I'm asking is that I've just had 2 ceiling fan lights installed by a qualified electrician. The fans work OK but it in the instructions it says specifically that these fans should only be used with...

    External Socket

In which case whats the point in having the knockout hole threaded in the first place?

    External Socket

Cheers for all the advice guys and gals (assuming sparkybird is a gal). All options considered t I think the best method must be to find an IP56 socket that does have knockout plates (Crabtree?) at the back, use a compression gland and just make the outside of the hole a bit bigger for the gland...

    External Socket

I hear you crafty. About the conduit boxes though - surely they aren't going to be waterproof for the same reason! Cable coming into the back. You might as well do it straight into the socket. :x

"Female adaptor with bush". I like the sound of that.

    External Socket

Here here Crafty I couldn't agree more. Its like that other chap keeps saying "If you're gonna do it do it right!". It just seems a bit sloppy thats all.

    Ceiling Fan

OK cheers fellas. I haven't bought the fans yet though - thats the whole point! I've seen them on the web. Also without nit picking they only way about 5kgs, not 15kgs. Slight difference! Point taken about the pull switch though. Cheers for the advice. :D

    External Socket

Hi people I've just purchased a Masterseal and I cannot believe these geniuses at MK or wherever haven't considered a scenario where someone might, just might, want to spur from an internal socket straight into the back of an external socket - ie the shortest most efficient route! After all...

    Ceiling Fan

Cheers for all your help guys - just a couple more questions to finish with. a) Does this mean I only require a 3 block connector (never used one before) b) I'm assuming the skew nailed piece of 4 x 1 between the joists will be sufficient for the weight of the fan? c) These are ceiling fans...

    Ceiling Fan

OK cool so do you mean that the 2 neutrals need to be twisted together to go into the single neutral connector on the light fitting and likewise the earths? Obviously the switched live is only 1 wire anyway. Cheers again

    Ceiling Fan

Hi again Heres the conundrum. I have 2 ceiling roses (both lights are on a 2 gang 1 way switch) in my living room, and I wish to replace them with 2 ceiling fans. The roses are on a loop in system, so they have the usual 3 cables coming in. As I understand it most flush mounted ceiling fans...

    External Socket

Hi guys Thanks very much for the advice - v helpful. Yes, the spur would come off a socket on the ring main and yes it would go directly through the wall into the back of the outside socket. Just to clarify, I should fill in the drill hole exit with mastic (after pulling the cable through!)...
