Is it best to attach a hive Or use the Honeywell app

I have ( see attached photo) a water softener in the house. I am replacing the pipes etc. Do I need to keep this orange thing or is there something newer/ betteron the market

New house got a combi boiler wireless Honeywell thermostat working fine. I want to have remote access eg hive etc. Any advice or ideas please
