At least I think that's what you call them... maybe MDF or something? Not wood anyway... so the doors are quite old now (maybe 30 years), and the screws holding the furniture on are very loose, so you can nearly pull the handle off the door sometimes. I've read one or two other threads here...

Thanks for that - I *think* the wood has actually been painted, but I'll have a proper look tomorrow... when you say "capping piece", do you mean this sort of thing?

I'll have to go out and have a better look when it's light again, but I think mostly the tops of some of the planks have fallen away - but last time I looked, I think the wood felt soft and crumbly in places. If you're thinking is it repairable, hhmmm, maybe I should inspect it better... but...

Yes, it does rock - the photo doesn't show it particularly well, but it comes away from the mullion at the top, while contacting the bottom below the bulge. Again, the photo isn't brilliant, but the water is lying on the windowsill below the mullion. There are some drops of water on the bottom...

Sadly, they only cover England and Wales - I'm in NI :( UPVC, yes. I'll attach a photo of the window, but the only opening bits are little ones at the top, and the mullions are I think evenly bowed from top to bottom. Curved mullions in red.

Good suggestion thanks, but bearing in mind my level of incompetence, I'm going to stick everything together with silicone - seal it up like a submarine, and hopefully leave it for decades :rolleyes:

Well, you're right about me being allergic to plumbing - I've always known that. But I'm pretty good at all the other things, so when something seems so simple... anyway, the water was definitely coming through the joint under the waste, I could see it clearly. What I then discovered was that...

Yup. Well I got about a month out of it, leak-free bliss. So of course I stopped the daily check (bit of bogroll round below the big nut, see if there are any water marks on it), and tonight I saw water seeping out onto the bathroom floor... everything soaked in the cupboard. So all ripped...

The two little lights above the mirror in my bathroom cabinet are falling to pieces. I replaced the bulbs with 12V LEDs a few years ago, but had to solder them to the transformer wires, as the connectors had failed. Unfortunately, they're flickering now, and the units are beyond repair now I...
