Is revealing a cars service history a security risk.

So long as there are no personal details I can't see a problem with that. I suspect there isn't any service history! You can, of course, get the MOT history from the registration number. John :)

Do you drive a manual or auto?

Yaris hybrid with CVT - brilliant, wouldn't go back to manual if I can help it. I don't think I'd dare let it go out of warranty though - transmission and other mysterious bits and bobs included! Manual Bipper van Honda HRV diesel manual. John :)

    Stihl blower carb primer question

If you think about it, there has to be one way valve somewhere as otherwise you would be just blowing air into the fuel tank and not getting very far. If I recall, there is a white plastic block below the primer bulb and the valve is in there (I think!) John :)

    Metal repair

I still think this is a quite easy joint to weld - given access with the seat on a bench and the paint removed.....the weld build up would make things strong once again. If you don't want to do this, I'd still go for a 5mm nut and bolt, which will tighten much more firmly than a 3mm. John :)

    Metal repair

A nut and bolt will always be the best repair here, but 3mm is too small. Can you up it to 5mm? This could be MIG welded in 5 minutes if you can get the seat out. John

    Stihl blower carb primer question

After storing the machine for a while the primer bulb may empty with fuel draining back to the tank. Pressing the primer fills the carb with fuel to aid starting, excess returns back to the tank, you will be able to see. Once started, the primer remains full, but it’s really just there to aid a...

    Leaky Alloys

On an 18 plate car, stick with the wheels you have and follow Regans advice......look to see what the tyre fitter is doing too - they deal with this every day. All people want to do is to fleece you! Particularly check the valve location for bubbles if the leak is tiny. Be lucky John :)

Nissan X Trail Aventura 2008 oil leak

Does the car have a dipstick? Much more reliable than the level sensor. Re the oil leak, it doesn’t look serious from here but it’s time to remove some of the pipes in the area and give us some other photos. At the top of the engine the usual suspect is the rocker cover but that’s only a...

    Felling a tree technique

You are on dangerous ground (and maybe litigation too if things go wrong). It's safer to de-limb the tree as far as possible, get a rope round it and pull......but we don't know what's in the way! John :)

    Fiat part expertise requested

The thin wall of these makes them ideal for certain vehicles - Nissan Qashqai 1600 anyone? The magnetic facility is great too. Not sure about the wobble effect though but on the Suzuki Hyabusa you can't get direct onto the plug. If you can get by with what you have, leave it there! John :)

    Motorway tolls

Having ridden many thousands of miles in my favourite country, I prefer the Toll roads if I need to get there quickly but the RN's if I have more time. One thing, if there are deviations to the route due to 'routes barre' then the diversion can be 30 miles at times. Toll roads naturally tend to...

    Kitchen floor repair

Maybe there could be a draught blowing round there.....spray foam perhaps? John

Brake Lights Constantly On - Peugeot 206

The multiplug that fixes into the rear of the lamp unit is well known to fail....likewise are the bulb holder connections that tend to rust. Consider bending the male pins a tiny amount to see if you can get a connection again - but I mean tiny! Be lucky John

Brake Lights Constantly On - Peugeot 206

There is, and you need to check the earth connection from the lamp unit to the body shell.......running a new cable if needs be. I assume that the correct bulbs are fitted to the holders of course! (Two pin bulbs pushed into a single pin holder for example). LED stop / tail lamps won't make any...

Van is leaking in the roof

Best remove the rack and send us a photo of any damage, I think......the brackets are usually spot welded in place but you may be able to repair with a bolt. John :)

    Checker plate

Roofing screws......slight dome head, 6mm nut for me! John

    Mountfield lower handle snapped advice

I think these brackets are only to allow the handles to be mounted at variable angles, but if you want to bolt them to the deck directly and it won’t interfere with anything behind then go for it! John

    Recommended strimmer head

I think there may be a technique issue here........ Don't bump the spool onto hard ground - every make will fail prematurely if you do. To expel the line, rev the machine up and as it returns to idle, bump the spool on grass. Use the correct diameter of line Don't wind too much line on the...

I've got a complaint with my new motor already!

My motor eats a fob battery every 6 months......worth keeping a spare nearby! John :)

I've got a complaint with my new motor already!

A disc cleaning programme is a completely new one on me! Time I packed it in. Anyhoo, we all know that the rear discs don’t do a great deal compared to the front so I’d be surprised if they cleaned up perfectly. Good luck with your hybrid, I’m well pleased with my Yaris Cross at 60.1 mpg -...
