The pipe is blocked. You can buy a rothenberger drain cleaning snake for around £15 ,and try clearing the pipe work. What length is the pipe from trap to stack ?
Did you use a 17mm spanner? Try using boiled water on the valves and wait for it to cool down? Tightening underneath would be a box spanner - rothenberger or monument and not expensive
Oh right, to fit the rad tail.
Rothy do a goodish set - http://www.plumbcenter.co.uk/product/rothenberger-radiator-spanner-12mm/?gclid=COiJxo-j0dACFeYK0wod2UgC6g
Well, I'm no plumber but I have a rothenberger superfire 2 with mapp gas, seems to work ok, for the admittedly very small number of plumbing tasks i perform.

one of those and a propane cylinder MAPP gas is hotter, but propane is easier to use
I originally had a Rothenberger that was absolute carp and changed to a Kamco about 5 years ago. It does the job and is still going strong after many flushes.
Steve
I have to say that draper "expert" tools have served me well over the years but rothenberger, bahco, crescent, bosch and halfords professional are all good'uns imho.
Spell it right - Rothenberger. Try their website? My local chain sells the formers at 15mm £16.73 and 22mm £21.38 both + vat. Rip off but the RRP's are £30 and £38!
I have a Rothenberger which fits onto a drill, absolutetly brilliant piece of kit and you can unblock anything even 4" pipes ,there are other with the drill and snake built as one unit
These are good but if the drill packs up then you have to send away for repair this was the main reason i...
Mainly for internal 15mm. I use a rothenberger pipe cutter the silver snap on type and it slightly bends over the inside of the pipe that to me looks like it needs deburring
Thanks
There are some things / devices that are available such as Rothenberger Kibosh ,which just clamp onto a pipe ,no tools required . Can you show a pic of the pipe / split ,and tell us the diameter.
I agree Rothenberger It may seem a lot to pay to do a few joints but if the cheaper blow torch results in just one leaky joint the cost and nconvenience of that repair will be a lot.
I haven't, I use Rothenberger Super Fire torches, but they're about £60 and a bit much for a single DIY job. That looks like a cheaper, more plasticky copy
This should do the trick

The Ridgid will cut 2 5/8" which is 67mm last time I checked.
Rothenberger make good pipe cutters but the Ridgid is superior in this case as it features roller bearings.
