what boiler system if low mains water pressure

Ok, just more thinking out loud on this... Is having one unvented cylinder and new boiler to supply hot water and heating for the whole house more cost effective than having a new combi to supply loft hot water and heating to loft conversion and another combi to supply hot water and heating to...

what boiler system if low mains water pressure

Ok, a few things to consider but will get the water pressure flow rate checked first and take it from there. I'm based in north London so let's hope it's not too bad! Any idea of cost to get decent water pressure sorted if it needs it? The cold water tap on the down stairs toilet, which is right...

what boiler system if low mains water pressure

Yes Pullergas, should probably get the pressure and flow rate established first then decide but was just wondering the options if flow rate was low. May never come to need to it but was just curious. What is the approx cost of upgrading incoming mains feed? We have a water meter on the...

what boiler system if low mains water pressure

Hi, with a loft conversion due in the near future I'm starting to research various boiler systems. At the mo we have a conventional boiler on the ground floor, hot water cylinder on the first floor and could water tank in the loft. House currently has 1 bathroom with shower powered with a water...

Hip to gable loft conversion question

In a simplistic view what is better considering all aspects? Timber or brick. I am not a builder so do not know what the criteria are or what there is to consider with each material hence me asking here. At a guess I'd assume brick to be stronger and more expensive but as for insulation...

Hip to gable loft conversion question

I am researching into doing a loft conversion at my property (semi detached) and have found this forum to be very informative so thanks thus far. I do have a question though I can't seem to find an answer for. For a hip to gable loft conversion is a gable end extension (the bit of wall where...

    possible to re-use bifold doors

Hi, i'm thinking of a single storey extension at the rear of the property that we moved into 4 months ago. The previous owner had new metal bifold doors fitted in 2007 which go out onto the garden. Is it possible to re-use these doors and have them fitted to the new extension as they are still...

    Cracks in ceiling

alastairreid, i understand your logic but we moved in over 3 months ago now...plus there are cracks appearing in the ceilings of a few rooms upstairs. Could it be movement in the joists??? As mentioned no cracks on the external walls? The cracks on the Lath ceiling downstairs are small...and...

    Cracks in ceiling

Hi, on close on close inspection there may be signs of previous repair, but I'm not 100% sure. The house was immaculate when we first viewed the property in May. The previous owners don't seem the type to do bodge job...they refurbished the place 5 years ago with new roof, kitchen, bathroom, etc...

    Cracks in ceiling

Hi, i am after the more informed opinion of the members here on cracks that are appearing on the ceilings of my 1930's semi. I moved in at the end of June 2013 and there were no cracks to be seen, however about a 2/3 weeks ago they started to appear in the front living room. I beleive this...

New downstairs light fitting tripping upstairs circuit.

Morning all...a quick update. I bought a multimeter and tested the new light fitting...all no readings except for the connection between L-N, which on the lowest resistance setting (200 ohms)had a reading of 90...is that enough to trip the CU or is an expected resistance number. Cheers Mike

New downstairs light fitting tripping upstairs circuit.

As far as I know he was a qualified electrician...I am waiting for him to call me back so i can discuss the two main switches! I think the bottom line here is I don't think this is something I will be able to diagnose and resolve myself so think I'll just bite the bullet and call a...

New downstairs light fitting tripping upstairs circuit.

I will take another CU pic tonight. I think the downstairs trips are on the left of the RCD and the upstairs trips are on the right of the RCD. As to the NON-RCD side of the board...i don't know, I'm just a novice. So it's not usual to have four of the red trips?? I had an electrical...

New downstairs light fitting tripping upstairs circuit.

Cool, I don't have a multimeter but can pick up a cheap one from Maplin on the way home tonight. I am a complete novice when i comes to electricals so excuse my stupidity...when I'm checking the fitting is low resistance good?? I check the resistance when its not wired up right? I've read an...

New downstairs light fitting tripping upstairs circuit.

i initially thought it was an issue with the new fitting so i took it back to the retailer and swapped it over for a new one. The replacement fitting presents the same issue. I suppose there could be an issue with the second new fitting, but what are the odds.
