    Structural Engineer Covering North Kent

Nobody? I'm really not having much luck here. Just had a quote through for just shy of £1k to specify 2 beams - crazy!

    Advice on overcharging?

It is not really a question of over charging, but if the job has been done right. You were willing to pay X for Y. So long as Y is done right, then you can't really complain. (Although it seems a lot for little time!) Did you mention this at the time to him today? Was it 2 people - you may...

    Laminate and prices

I'll leave it to the professionals to make the comparisons, I'm just a keen DIY'er! We had similar stuff in our lounge for 3-4 years, and our house the front door is straight in from the street, so lots of traffic. No issues at all with fading, seemed hard wearing too. We eventually relaid all...

Dealing with estate agents and making an offer

How much different we talking in price here? Can't help feel from the sellers point of view the old 'bird in the hand' applies. Why stall an offer today and risk losing it for the sake of one that might not come tomorrow. Also from the agents points of view I cannot see their gain. Assuming...

    Laminate and prices

We've had various laminates etc over the years. The wider board from Wickes have certainly seen us well. If it is not your flat, and you don't anticipate being there for an awfully long time, it does not make sense to go crazy with the spend on it. I've even put some of the very cheap skinny...

    Laminate and prices

How much have you been quoted? Laminate is pretty easy to do yourself if you wanted to save money. Cost of laying is going to be impossible to guess without some idea of what the space is like. If its a perfect square it will do down in no time at all. If what you are laying it on needs work...

    Carpet Right Experience

Go local every time. The carpet is not too badly priced if you ignore the fake "99% OFF THIS WEEK ONLY" signs, but as you've found you get stung on everything else. Can't remember the exact numbers, but our foam underlay was something like £3 p/m vs £10 p/m for the same stuff. Think our fitting...

    Structural Engineer Covering North Kent

Hi all, After a couple of let downs, can anybody recommend a reliable structural engineer who covers North Kent? I've some purlins to support in order to remove the struts in the middle of the loft space. Just need somebody to specify a beam that can be assembled in the loft. Thanks James

Cowboy radiator install - how to cowboy it :-)

You'll save no time because you'll have litres mucky of water to clear up. Is this cupboard ventilated anyway? I expect you going to end up with a mouldy damp cupboard and cracked leathers if not.

Cowboy radiator install - how to cowboy it :-)

If I read that right, you'll cut the pipe and attempt to get the push fit on whilst the water flows out? Sounds like you'll be draining the system onto the floor to me. The pressure on my radiators when opening a valve up was like having the tap on full blast.

    Recommend Me A Combi Please?

Slightly confused by the last comment o_O Any further recommendations? The Intergas warranty seems to be 3yrs on parts only. How does this compare with others? Can't remember what the last guy suggested to us, but sure that had 7yrs on it (which seems a lot more reasonable).

Boiler quotes - general question on breakdown of items...

As above really. You don't need a breakdown on what costs what, but you should have a list of the agreed work. Otherwise when you get to the end and think, 'oh I thought you was going to do X', you have something written down you've both agreed.

    Recommend Me A Combi Please?

Hi all, We currently have a Worcester Bosch 24i Greenstar Junior which was installed 2008 by British Gas. Given a number of mystery issues & repairs losing hot water etc, I've decided to bite the bullet and get a new one. Does anybody have any recommendations to what might be suitable? I did...

Fitting Tiles Around Velux Loft Window Problem

Excellent advise. Liberally applied the CT1 along the overlap join, and a bead down the join for good measure. 12 hours later and I can hold the cut tile and it supports the whole tile with no movement. Thanks!

OK - Thanks! Will give it a go :)

Fitting Tiles Around Velux Loft Window Problem

In this case the Wickes own 'no more nails' type stuff in a tube. How bonded does the CT1 one end up. Is it a strong join?

    Chasing for quotes?

Happens to me all the time! Can't get my head around it. If you don't want the job, just say! If you too busy, again just say, atleast I might call you next time. Grrr!

Fitting Tiles Around Velux Loft Window Problem

Can I ask what adhesive specifically you use(d)? I tried some instant grab for 24hours, and it does not hold.

Toilet becomes internal - cistern overflow?

Same here. The screw holes were below the adjustment of the stand pipe. Quick saw sorted that out. The overflow is about 22mm, which will carry something silly like 1l per second. Probably enough for a complete fair I'd assume?! Mine have only ever "leaked" - so would be fine during the...

WB 24i Greenstar Jnr - Primary Heat Exchanger Irreplaceable?

After doing some reading I think I'm going to give another bottle of X800 a go. The videos online of the primary heat exchanger suggest it can be an effective cleaner (and for £20 must be worth a go!). On the topic of the diagnosis in the first place, is the primary heat exchanger a likely...
