Lights Tripping Out After New Plastering?!

My 1st reply was before I saw the 2nd reply. Think I've covered everything except nothing was connected to it during day, except to itself. Not sure how that was done I'm afraid.

Lights Tripping Out After New Plastering?!

Hi, Lights off I assume. We were out, came home to find the upstairs sockets and downstairs lights not working. Our consumer unit was fitted in May this year, so is one with two different RCD protected curcuits. All the boarding and boxing happened yesterday, so I'd have thought if a cable...

Lights Tripping Out After New Plastering?!

Hi all, We've had the kitchen replastered over the last 2 days and now the lights are tripping out. Day 1 - Kitchen light comes off and builders have done something that keeps all the wires there safe. All the boarding etc is done this day. Day 2 - Some point throughout the day it all...

    insulating under suspended timber floor

Some recent research showed that carpet can be better for allergies, as they hold the allergens rather than hard flooring where they remain airborne. Might be worth considering?

    Finding a Builder

Have you tried any of the "find a tradesman" type websites? We have had varied results, but at least gives you a chance to put in writing exactly when you do (and dont) want... So you'll only get quotes from those willing to do that kind of job.

Fixing Picture aquarium to stud wall

That size given is wrong I would assume? Unless it is very short?

    False Chimney Breast Designs

That is an interesting idea! The bricks are very fragile though, I wonder how many would survive that kind of cutting. At the moment our builder has said the brickie will just do a small wall, at no extra cost (bonus!), not sure if they'll build up from the floor boards or not?! Thanks for...

    Soundproofing suspended flooring

Are you going to put Rockwall (or similar) between the joists whilst you have it all up anyway?

    False Chimney Breast Designs

Feeling a little silly here! Should have said this is a completely false chimney breast, nothing past an electric plug in fire will grace it. In our renovation we ended up with 7.5 of plain wall, with the meter & fuse box slap bang in the middle. Killing two birds with one stone...

New Flat Roof Meeting Building Regs?

Was kind of the plan. I'm not doing it myself, builder is bringing up the brickwork and putting in the joists, roofer is doing OSB and fibreglass. I probably should check this. So the plan is fibre glass over OSB, cellotex between joists, multi foil under the joists, cross baton with stud...

New Flat Roof Meeting Building Regs?

We are swapping the pitched roof on our small (2m x 2.2m) single story room to a flat roof to gain some headroom. I had thought this was just a case of adding some block work courses, putting a roof on and making sure it is insulated enough. However BC have come back with: Changing a...

    False Chimney Breast Designs

Hi, I am struggling to find examples of the type of false chimney I want to create on Google etc. Just was wondering if there was a certain name to it I could search for more inspiration? Basically I want to turn this... Into something like this... The picture is a little...

    Multiple Regulation Issues / Questions

Ok, that patio door thing might be a problem. The internal dimensions of the wall are 2200mm, the door I have delivered is 1790mm wide. I actually ordered the 1490mm ones though (got delivered the wrong ones). It sounds like I might NEED the smaller ones?

    Multiple Regulation Issues / Questions

Perfect, the quote I had was to double board all the ceilings (totally 48sqm!) so that should bring the cost down nicely :) Thanks

    Multiple Regulation Issues / Questions

Thanks for the replies :) Anybody got any idea on the other parts? Just called BC, they think it might be Tuesday before I get a reply

    Multiple Regulation Issues / Questions

I have a number of questions in regard to our renovation works. The house is a 1903 terrace, it is being reshuffled from a "two up two down" with kitchen/bedroom off the back, and a single storey bathroom off the back of that. The stairs have been moved to the side wall, and we plan to merge the...

    Cheapest Extension Option

Has the builder said how long this will take, and how many on site to do it? As per above, the quote seems very cheap!

Advice on what to ask a carpet fitter during a quote

Having recently had quotes ourselves here is what we learnt: - Most 'sales' are about as genuine as a DFS sale! - Retailers sell the same things under different names. Research is key for best price. - Carpetright are disgustingly over priced on some items. Underlay they sell for £9 sq/m...

A Few Plastering Questions In An Old Property

We have a 1900's terrace, all the walls are back to brick and the ceiling is back to rafters. The walls are fairly poor, with loose mortar and fairly uneven. Opinions of the two builders that we've had so far have included dot & dab, render or baton & board. Rendering seems to make sense to...

No insulation in my loft conversion

Our local building control added support to the remainder of the chimney stack in our loft free of charge. The previous owner had the chimney breasts removed & signed off in 2006. In 2011 we called them as looked like it was moving. They came and put in huge gallow brackets and supports, saying...
