Lack of supplementary bonding - what’s the danger ?

That is incorrect - a section of metal pipe which is insulated from earth does not form part of the electrical installation and therefore cannot be an exposed conductive part

Lack of supplementary bonding - what’s the danger ?

I’m aware of what touch voltages are. Please read my original post. Please explain why supp. Bonding in an adjacent room or cupboard for example has any significant benefit to that of the main bonding and cpcs connected together in a consumer unit

Lack of supplementary bonding - what’s the danger ?

Well if a section of plastic is introduced in the pipe work it is no longer extraneous and would be better not bonded, so your logic is somewhat floored here

Lack of supplementary bonding - what’s the danger ?

Why ? Do you doubt the conductivity of the copper ?

Lack of supplementary bonding - what’s the danger ?

Yes that’s the purpose of an equipotential zone - So back to my original point - if main bonding is in place, how will there be any significant differences in potential between extraneous conductive parts with the omission of supplementary bonding ? Here’s another thought - where all or some of...

Lack of supplementary bonding - what’s the danger ?

Well in this case we are deliberately making as large a potential difference as possible between class 2 metalwork and EC parts with respect to line voltage to ensure ADS works, which is providing a nice path through our bodies should we happen to be in contact with both of them during a fault...

Lack of supplementary bonding - what’s the danger ?

I’d still be interested to understand the object of it and the scenarios they were intending to mitigate because I can’t get my head around the usual “to prevent PD between extraneous conductive parts” whilst the zone occupant is performing some odd pose whilst wet and unrobed. I’ve always...

Lack of supplementary bonding - what’s the danger ?

I was about to make the point that if the metal waste pipe and trap were indeed continuous into the ground they would be /should be main bonded . So we are down to shock protection during a LE fault duration of typical 0.4s for final circuits. Thinking aloud, is there anything more dangerous...

Lack of supplementary bonding - what’s the danger ?

…ok thanks for posting John, but how could a metal waste pipe be an extraneous conductor ? Waste pipes are connected to the drains via plastic / ceramic underground pipework and as such are not going to be earth potential? I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen a metal waste pipe from a bath...

Lack of supplementary bonding - what’s the danger ?

So I know why it is done, where it is done and how it’s done, and when it isn’t required, but I’m yet to see a scenario where there is shock danger in a typical bathroom in a dwelling provided a) the main bonding is in place and b) the CPC’s of all circuits are connected together in the CU (as...

Adding wireless door contacts to Wired system

Thanks for the help and advice on here. I’m going to fit the expander and relay as it’s the least hassle to do rather than swap out the control box and keypad which would be the better option at least I can then add wireless devices and keep wired ones with an upgrade path if I wish in the future.

Adding wireless door contacts to Wired system

Thanks for taking the time to reply and all makes sense. Where I am with the sensors though is yes if you know how to you can avoid triggering them but the isn’t the reality that 99% of intruders don’t give a ****e about setting it off, these scumbags they know you have an alarm, they are coming...

Adding wireless door contacts to Wired system

A cat and 35kg dog unfortunately, I’ve ordered some of the Texecom pirs with pet wise option will give it a soak test with these see how it goes

Adding wireless door contacts to Wired system

Hi thanks yes considered pet tolerant devices although from this forum at least there seemed little confidence in them / few recommendations. From looking briefly at the expander/relay kit they just wired onto an empty zone so any control panel would be suitable with an unused zone ?

Adding wireless door contacts to Wired system

I have a veritas mains hard wired panel, keypad, with 3 PIR wired sensors and SAB pretty standard, but now have pets and wish to add some door contacts and disable tthe PIR's. to avoid false triggers As far as I can see the route would be to add Texecom Ricochet Wireless Expansion Kit and then...

    Citadel Defender SAB II wiring

Thanks thought that was it How do you link out the SAB tamper to test the system without the bell box ? Edit I just connected tamp return and Ov did the trick

    Citadel Defender SAB II wiring

Hi, I’m wiring up an alarm, I’ve had in a box for years but don’t have the wiring diagram for the bell box. The terminals are Stb - Trig - Hold off - Hold off + Rtn - The panel is a Texecom R8 with SAB terminals A 12V B switched -ve activate sounder C -ve tamper return D perm neg supply 0v S...

    EV installations RDC-DD resting

Hi all, as I’m getting more frequent enquiries to install EV charging points, I’m considering upgrading my test equipment- EV adapters for MFT seem to be in region of £400 but even then unless you get the latest MFT you can’t test the 6mA DC functionality within the EVCP . How many of you are...
