    Electric Shower Cable

Ooops! must be my age - it's aTriton "Opal" not pearl  Iknew it was a gem. And it is 10.5Kw Looking at that BS table, the 6mm can take 51A in "Method 13", depending on what 'free air' is. Maybe the electrician who fitted it decided it was mostly that.

    Electric Shower Cable

I can't remember the wattage of the "Pearl" but think it was 10.5Kw - may have been less. The cable is std pvc and is about 4 or 5 metres length (judging by the CU position and floor plan). I suppose some of it is buried in plaster and the majority in the ceiling void. The report didn't...

    Electric Shower Cable

Just had an electrical installation test done on a house I am moving to. Mostly fine except that the electric shower (Triton "Pearl", which I believe is 10.5kw) is wired with a 6mm cable. I have the same shower in my current house and I used 10mm. The report doesn't say that it the wrong size...

    Economy Electricity in Bedfordshire

JohnD - where did you get British Gas from? I have used the figures you suggested in Uswitch, EnergyHelpLine and SimplySwitch and they all suggest Npower's "Sign Online V.6" is best. Just says night time rate for economy. I have never used economy electricity - what's the difference between 7...

    Porch or Extension?

Ok chaps, thanks. Although most people I know with a conservatory tend to inhabit them quite a lot.

    Economy Electricity in Bedfordshire

What does that mean? Do I have to just tell the current supplier that I am moving in and use them then? The last time I moved house was 19 years ago and it was within the same LEB area, and I didn't need Economy tariffs, so it was an easy address switch.

    Porch or Extension?

For Building Regulations and PP, what is the difference between a porch and an extension. They are both listed separately and can be up to 30 sq m before PP is required (apparently).

    Economy Electricity in Bedfordshire

Thankee kindly JohnD - very useful. Thank you too Zen. Didn't make it clear - there is no gas CH because it is a village and there is no gas supply. I can look into oil and lpg later but judt to begin with I will need an electricity supply, and don't want to have to change it just after...

    Economy Electricity in Bedfordshire

Thanks for the link. Problem is that I am moving house - not only that, moving area (from London to Mid-Beds). All these comparison sites ask for my current supplier, and I do not have one for the new place - that's what I am trying to decide - who to connect with. The new house has no...

    Economy Electricity in Bedfordshire

Thank you. Difficult as I don't know what is currently at the house, but gives an idea. Seems to be many suppliers in the area. Who knows which one is best? There is no gas there, just night storage heaters at present. I guess they have a Economy 7 meter (maybe 10). I will have to try to find...

    Gas supply in Villages

Yes, thanks. It appears that it depends upon how far you are from the main how much it costs (obvious I suppose). I guess 'they' would only do it if the majority of the village wanted it and were prepared to pay their proportion of the total cost. How does one find out exactly where the...

    Economy Electricity in Bedfordshire

Does anyone know which electricity supplier in Bedfordshire (Mid) area provides which economy packages? I don't live there yet, but am trying to make plans for when I do.

    Gas supply in Villages

Because it's cheap (ish) and easy to use (mostly) and it's what I am used to. But, the question was why the gas main had not been supplied, when electricity, water and sewage had (not in all cases). Is it just the cost to the supplier?

    Gas supply in Villages

Does anyone know why gas mains supply has not been installed at (it seems) a lot of villages when they have electricity, water, sewage on mains? Is there some plan to install? in any particular order? I did try to get this info from British Gas a while back, but never received an answer.

    Regs and Bath

Um, thanks guys. Sorry to have been the cause of apparent friction. From what you have both said, I think that I could undertake a complete refit of my kitchen without any approval as long as I don't change any electrical wiring or alter the drainage. Connecting the oven to the connector etc...

    Regs and Bath

who is "we" ? I don't want to get into arguments over it, but what was relatively easy before is now made more difficult. This is from the official regs... Building Regulations Explanatory Booklet (http://www.communities.gov.uk/index.asp?id=1131116) From Section 3…. 3.2 If whatever...
