How do Fixtures Affect Lamp Life

Thanks for that clarification. What I was thinking was that with any lamp, a fire rated fitting will get hotter than an open one, and therefore the lamp will too. I was wondering whether that could affect lamp life.

How do Fixtures Affect Lamp Life

I noticed in the TLC catalogue there is a statement that the only lamp recommended for low voltage halogen fire rated downlights is the Coolfit. My assumption is that is because the fixture is closed behind the lamp so need to project the heat down away from the fixture. Is that correct? It...

    Sockets Ring Wiring

"Hard-of-Thinking" -- I love the euphemism! Thanks very much for this. I'll see what he says, would be a great shame to waste this perfectly good cable and end up with a mix of old and new colours. Regards Peter

    Sockets Ring Wiring

Many thanks for that B-A-S. Is there a document on the process for listing departures that you could reference for me? I ask in case the Spark I am using is not comfortable with this, since he will have to issue my certificate. Regards Peter

    Sockets Ring Wiring

I would prefer to do as Ban-all-sheds suggests and use black/red cable. Why on earth did they change the colours anyway? And I have an almost full reel of black and red 2.5mm sq. But I understood new wiring had to be with the new colours to meet regs requirements?? Peter

    Sockets Ring Wiring

What a great forum! Thanks to all for these answers, which are all clear and to the point. The cable is 2.5 mm sq, and there is already a type B 32 A MCB in place. It will be much easier to leave the existing ends to the CU in place as they run 7-8 metres down a landing and the CU is just...

    Sockets Ring Wiring

We are looking at rewiring kitchen/diner. This is served by a single ring main from 32A MCB, but looking to replace all the existing sockets with new ones in new places. I have two questions. First, I know it is required to use harmonized colour cable for new wiring, but would it be...

    RCBO for LIGHTING

Thanks very much for such a full answer Spark123. I will be raising a building notice for this because it clearly falls into a number of categories that need that. Peter

    RCBO for LIGHTING

As part of re-fitting a kitchen/diner, we plan to re-wire the lighting in that room and the adjacent utility and fit 12V halogen downlighters. All the lighting to be re-wired is on one MCB. I understand regs now require lighting circuits to be RCD protected. Can this be achieved by putting a 6...
