    Garage door missing parts

I think I'd be better off starting with something like putting up a shelf rather than replacing a garage door. The stakes are a bit lower. :D

    Garage door missing parts

Thank you. :) As I'm sure must be obvious from my posts, I'm a complete novice when it comes to DIY: I wouldn't even consider attempting to replace the door myself. A roller door like yours (with remote controls) is what I'd like to replace our up-and-over with but, from what I was told by...

    Garage door missing parts

In your opinions, what's the most secure garage door type with a budget of £1,000?

    Garage door missing parts

It can be opened from the inside but it can't be locked or unlocked. That's a very good point that I hadn't even considered. That would also have been true of the original setup, wouldn't it? On reflection, I think I'll put it back how it was and just accept that we can only open it...

    Garage door missing parts

I think I've managed to botch it so that the door can at least be opened from the outside, although I'm not sure how much I trust the latching mechanism (see photos below). We'll just have to work around not being able to lock or unlock it from the inside. The new external handle and (square)...

    Garage door missing parts

 The good news: the new external handle and lock are a perfect fit for the hole left by the old handle and lock. The not-so-good news: the spindle on the new external handle is square which means I can't secure the old internal handle to it (the old spindle was circular and threaded)...

    Garage door missing parts

I contacted a local garage door company to come and have a look at this. They said the rear cam is missing a part and something's snapped off inside the lock. Their conclusion: parts are no longer available so the only way to sort it out is to buy Garador's official conversion kit for £160...

Thank you. That does look like it might fit. (y)

    Garage door missing parts

The slider can be operated by hand but it also moves when you turn the key: one complete revolution clockwise moves it up; anti-clockwise moves it down. Whichever position it's in, the handles won't turn.

    Garage door missing parts

Probably but I haven't attached the wires yet. I wanted to make sure that the key, lock and handles worked before attaching the wires. Even if I can get the wires to work, I still need to be able to open the door from the outside. I've contacted several parts suppliers but they all stopped...

    Garage door missing parts

Quick update: the lock itself appears to be broken: no matter what position the key is in, the handle won't turn. The replacement lock and handle assemblies from Garador have all been discontinued so I'm now looking for a suitable replacement. I've found several that I think will fit but...

    Garage door missing parts

Thanks. I'm not concerned about security. I'd just like to be able to open the door from the outside using the handle. (y) Thanks, both. As per my previous reply, I'll try the wire that I found in my toolbox. If that doesn't work, I'll get some brake cable. That's a good shout.

    Garage door missing parts

I wish they'd left behind whatever they removed so I could re-fit it. I didn't notice when we looked round the house. I've found some really thick wire in my toolbox. I might see if that's strong enough to connect the handle to the bar.

The only way to open the door is to reach up and pull the bar down with your hand. This pulls down the two hooks you can see at either end of the bar in the first photo, releasing the door. Yes, the key turns in the lock.

    Garage door missing parts

Thanks. Do you mean that there are springs missing between the handle and the bar?

    Garage door missing parts

Hello, The garage door of the house we've moved into is missing whatever piece(s) connects the handle to the bar across the top of the door. Apologies for the clumsy explanation. Hopefully the following photos will explain it better than I can... The only way to open the door is to pull down...
