Are you building the roof with trusses of some kind? If so you can fix a couple of diagonal braces on the top or bottom of the bottom chord (of the trusses).

Yes just consider your bracing, perhaps consider some diagonal bracing at roof level too and as above some plywood or OSB sheathing on the ends. What's the exposure like, is it exposed particularly or in between say a fence and the house wall?

If the opening has been sound with no sign of cracking etc for several years its reasonable to assume whatever beam has been used was suitable.

That looks like it's an opening already that's been boarded up. Peel off a bit of the board near the top and see what you find.

I would add that there was a lot of strengthening work done to the standard units before they were built in, absolutely no sag etc and when you tap any of it it it's got that solid sound rather than a standard Billy which frankly is a bit crap!

I extended my Billy's with the standard extensions, by total luck (as seen in the pics) the wall space available lent itself to the Billy dimensions perfectly.

If you really want a good shed then build it yourself, it won't cost much more but will be superior if done well. And actually it takes probably no more skill than is involved in throwing up a pre-built one. Though probably needs a couple of tools
