CH on heats HW, and HW on heats CH (Ed.)

Thank you. So for someone who doesn’t understand all the details, and we don’t want to change anything else just the controller for now, are we better off going with Drayton LP822 or Hive might be best… and per RandonGrinch.. or are you saying even with these controllers, they won’t heat HW...

CH on heats HW, and HW on heats CH (Ed.)

Thanks. So if we don’t get an immersion heater, the CH will always come on with the HW whatever we do? That’s one of the main issues as the thermostat then doesn’t switch off the CH when it reaches the correct temp and the house gets too hot..

CH on heats HW, and HW on heats CH (Ed.)

Yes we're not at all pleased with him, everyone makes mistakes but he should have helped to sort it out and not left her with a system that doesn't work properly. It's a shame we didn't get a picture of the wiring whilst there to share with you... Thanks very much for the advice re Drayton, we...

CH on heats HW, and HW on heats CH (Ed.)

Thank you very much for this RandomGrinch. Unfortunately we're not with my mother in law anymore, she lives 5 hours away!.. we were visiting her last weekend, so now trying to help remotely. She got into this fix as the original electrician that fitted the A27-HW as not been helpful in coming...

CH on heats HW, and HW on heats CH (Ed.)

Hello all, I think we now know it is a gravity system as suspected from earlier posts. We weren't able to get the front off the controller unfortunately (mother in law too worried it was dangerous!). But please could someone tell me whether it's possible for the EPH A27-HW to work with a...

Thanks for explaining :) had a look around can’t see anything like that… here’s a picture of the pipes at the bottom of the cylinder. Wow £130 eeek! Hope it’s not one of those!

Thank you, that’s interesting, I wonder how we can figure out if it’s a gravity boiler… yes we’ll have a go at taking the photo, would you mind taking a look if we send in the morning … I don’t think I can manage that one myself :)

CH on heats HW, and HW on heats CH (Ed.)

Ok thanks. Just to add, thanks for changing my post title, but when the HW is heating, the CH doesn’t come on a littke bit, it comes on full blast and doesn’t switch off when the thermostat reaches target temp, because of course the HW wouldn’t be linked to the thermostat. So it overshoots and...

CH on heats HW, and HW on heats CH (Ed.)

Thank you. Is the cyltrol another way of switching btw supplying CH and HW… if we don’t have a motorised or manual valve? Just trying to understand as much as I’m able to! Is there any chance this is the controller being installed incorrectly (wired badly) if it’s been an issue since then? My...

CH on heats HW, and HW on heats CH (Ed.)

Not fully sure as it’s my mother in laws boiler but she thinks it started up with the new controller (installed only as old one was outside in a garage with boiler). I don’t think there’s a manual valve, she’s never had to adjust any valve to switch btw HW / CH ..

CH on heats HW, and HW on heats CH (Ed.)

Thank you for helping. It’s 2 Zone A27-HW. I’ve just asked, she’s not entirely sure but thinks it has been doing this since around the controller was installed. “It’s never been right”. Do you think that means it might be the controller not installed correctly?

Sorry bit messy! Does this capture it adequately?

CH on heats HW, and HW on heats CH (Ed.)

Thank you. We’ve just had a good look in the airing cupboard where the hot water cylinder is and can’t find it, and nowhere to be seen near the boiler either. Is it possible we don’t have one? I hope it’s not buried in a wall or ceiling cavity somewhere!!

CH on heats HW, and HW on heats CH (Ed.)

Ahh right! I’ve looked up what the motorised valve should look like and have searched around and can’t find one on any of the pipes. We’ll have another hunt around in daylight (it’s out in a garage). Thank you again, at least we know to contact the correct professional!

CH on heats HW, and HW on heats CH (Ed.)

Thanks will definitely will be contacting a professional, but input from Terryplumb is extremely helpful to have some sort of idea what is going on and to contact the right professional as we had been going to contact an electrician about dodgy wiring but if seems like a heating engineer would...

We’re trying to help my mother in law… She has EPH thermostat and controller. The controller has control buttons for hot water on one side and heating on the other side. Oddly, putting the heating on also seems to bring on hot water. And also putting the hot water on, puts the heating...

Worcester B 32 CDI compact or 30i? Plus pipe advice!! Please!

Hi thanks for reading. I have a fairly old semi detached 2/3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (showers mains but not often used same time). Existing old combi 22mm piping at gas meter and at boiler but quite a long route from basement at front of house to boiler at back of house (around 20-25m as it seems...

Glow-worm compact 100e hot water problem - please help!

Thanks so much both - I’ve checked when I run the hot the central heating flow pipe doesn’t get hot. Apart from the pcb, what do you think about it being the plate heat exchanger or the thermister. I’ve had a couple of RGIs around - one thinks the plate heat exchanger as water luke warm so...

Glow-worm compact 100e hot water problem - please help!

Would be grateful for any advice. My Glow worm combi boiler (16-18 yr old) is heating radiators fine, but a few weeks ago starting producing only luke warm water. This morning after the central heating was off all night, only cold water came out the hot water. This evening (the central heating...
