Timer on a Santon PremierPlus Unvented tank

Hi The tank is a PP300B, the stat is built into it. There doesn’t appear to be any wiring centre for the tank itself, the cable goes downstairs, into a wiring centre for the whole system, where it links to the zone valve and pump. To be honest even getting involved in the wiring centre...

Boiler firing constantly for hot watere

I have been checking it manually, usually around 25-30% modulation when the hot water is on

Boiler firing constantly for hot watere

Hi, I have one coming for the flow today, but it’s definitely the cylinder firing it, the heating is off and it’s the hot water circuit coming on. It’s a greenstar8000 35kw system boiler, set to 65. Ta Paul

Timer on a Santon PremierPlus Unvented tank

Ok great, thank you for this, least I know what the next step is!

Timer on a Santon PremierPlus Unvented tank

Thanks, so I do seem to have a permanent live and neutral coming from downstairs, the neutral is just connected straight to the tank, the live has a simple mechanical switch in between. So when I connect the neostat hw or even a cheap timer, I have the live from downstairs coming in, neutral...

Timer on a Santon PremierPlus Unvented tank

Thanks. So I want a timer as currently the tank calls for heat every hour basically, even if no water is used. I am currently narrowing down why that may be (the tank doesn’t really seem to be losing any temp over several hours with some tests I have done, but must be enough to drop the...

Boiler firing constantly for hot watere

Yea seems not! I will see about putting in another zone valve to rule out that issue and see from there. Thanks all

Yea so I don’t appear to have a seperate one for the immersion , just one stat for all…

Boiler firing constantly for hot watere

Hi Yep it’s pretty much every hour. I did record the gas meter after you mentioned it before, problem is the CH comes on around 5am so I am not able to check it before that so I get the CH mixed in as well. It takes around 10 mins for the boiler to come up to temp from pretty much cold, then I...

Timer on a Santon PremierPlus Unvented tank

Thanks for the replies, so currently I just have a live/neutral/earth from the boiler stat, it goes to a simple on/off switch beside it so I can isolate it. When this is on, it completes the circuit to the zone valve and pump downstairs, but these don’t fire until the thermostat on the cylinder...

Boiler firing constantly for hot watere

So I left the power to the tank off all night, around 8 hours. I moved the thermostat to see where it clicked before I turned it back on, still seemed to be sitting around 4, so it didn’t think it had lost 10 degrees or anything. When I turned it on, it only called for hot water for 15mins (I.e...

Boiler firing constantly for hot watere

Yea so it’s firing every 60/90 mins it seems, mostly every 60 mins almost right on the nose. It’s a 300L tank, so that would be even higher then? Is there any way to equate that to how much water I would be “losing” to cause that?

Boiler firing constantly for hot watere

Good question, the setup came with the house, so I have just been trying to understand it all and I think that’s the next logical step! The part I don’t understand however is if I isolate the tank, it doesn’t lose anything and the stat doesn’t fire the boiler, so I must be seeing some water...

Boiler firing constantly for hot watere

Yea, it does seem a bit OTT but can only go on what they have said, if it is larger then it’s a bit more worrying as I would need to be losing a decent bit of water every hour to cause the temp to drop that much. I have verified the tank seems ok and will hold the heat ok. My flow temp at the...

Boiler firing constantly for hot watere

thanks! I spoke to santon/back who said that as soon as the tank drops 1 degree it will call for heat, which isn’t ideal, but I still must be losing water somewhere to cause it to drop….the mystery continues! My plumber has said we can put a flow meter on the hot water, see if we are losing any...

Timer on a Santon PremierPlus Unvented tank

Hi I have been unsuccessfully along with my electrician trying to add a timer to this unit for the thermostat. When connected via a simple on/off switch it’s fine, but the minute I put any type of other switch in front of it, the switch goes bonkers as soon as the thermostat clicks on. I have...

Boiler firing constantly for hot watere

So currently it fires every hour to top itself up, however when it was isolated it didnt call once over a 6/7hr period, so I know the tank xcan hold the heat. So I am just trying to understand if when the tank isnt isolated (i.e flow is open, but no taps/showers on) I cshould expect it to hold...

Boiler firing constantly for hot watere

Hi, sorry do you mean shut the incoming cold feed to the cylinder? Paul

Boiler firing constantly for hot watere

Hi, yep, I turned off the valve on the flow after the cylinder so no water could leave it, this way the tank kept temp and didnt call for heat over a 6/7hr period. Soon as I opened it again, it was back to normal, every hour or so. When it calls overnight, all the taps/showers etc are off, and...

Boiler firing constantly for hot watere

So this didn’t make any difference. So I am not going down a rabbit hole, the tank when isolated holds temp without firing the boiler for 6/7 hrs. So should I expect at least 3/4hrs when the tank isn’t isolated, but all hot water circuits are closed? If so it would indicate something is slowly...
