so maybe the valve is actually in the wrong way....

the handle in my kitchen doesn't go further upwards than the position shown on the pic - only downwards.

according to this pic the gas supply is on then - there are no markings on the handle in my case - so wondering if it would be a standard poition for off and on regardless of markings
