    Is This Normal For Taps?

So this is by design then. This doesn't seem though to be a very good design - either fully on or fully off - since when should a tap work like that - I have never come across this in my life. For one thing it is very wasteful of water, and its incredible such a design could even be allowed.

    Is This Normal For Taps?

Can you recommend any taps you think are good as replacement ? This problem happens on both the hot and cold taps.

    Is This Normal For Taps?

I am not sure the answer to your question - however the full turn of the tap is 1 and 3/4 turns - after 1/4 turn it is only a small dribble, after that it comes on quite suddenly, and at 3/8 of a turn it is a fairly fast flow, at 1/2 turn it is as fast as you'd ever likely need it, at 1 full...

    Is This Normal For Taps?

The flow reduces without any change in position of the tap handles. There was no similar problem with the old taps, which could flow in a very thin steady stream indefinitely (they were changed as the handles got too stiff to close easily). I just wondered if this is how taps worked these days...

    Is This Normal For Taps?

Hi I just had two new taps installed on my kitchen sink, the plumber said they were of the make "Deva". I noticed something odd about them though - when you leave them running they will gradually reduce the flow rate until they eventually practically stop. This happens only if the tap is on at a...

    Question re New GCH Installation

That's why I'm going to drill a small hole on the top horizontal section of the pipe, on the top side of pipe, so it if did back up for any reason then it would just escape through the hole rather than get to the boiler, so the boiler could keep on working. If there was any problem with that...

    Question re New GCH Installation

Well I've decided I'm just going to fix this myself - I'm going to dig a fair sized hole around the pipe and fill it with limestone chippings (a 25kg bag from Wickes is £4), and cut the pipe at ground level so it sits right on the chippings. Then the condensate will always drain away, and...

    Question re New GCH Installation

Re the air break - in the photo below what if I drilled a hole on the upper side of the pipe at the horizontal section where it leaves the house, so that in the event of freezing it would not back up but exit through the hole? It would obviously then run down the side of the house, but that...

    Question re New GCH Installation

There is no hole in the coupling - that is just part of the moulding (see photo). I had a look for further info online and a 32kW boiler like mine discharges about 1-2 litre per hour of condensate when operating fully. Some people have had problems due to condensate pipe freezing and condensate...

    Question re New GCH Installation

Apologies! - I have been working all weekend and not had a chance to post. However they came up and fixed the condensate pipe, which now goes some way under the ground into the earth, and has been concreted over - though the guy did not put lime chippings onto it. I have trusted he has done it...

    Question re New GCH Installation

I am certainly not planning to be angry with them - I will simply be asking if something can be done regarding these various issues that is all, and hopefully they will be OK about that. Regarding the copper pipe - on driving past some neighbours houses today I noticed a couple of them with a...

    Question re New GCH Installation

Yes - the path where the condensate pipe goes is a walkway By 'no response' of electric shower I mean no indicator light goes on, no sound is heard, and no water flows, absolutely nothing happens. It was working perfectly before the GCH installation. I have no idea what they might have done to...

    Question re New GCH Installation

The company are quite reputable, and have a good rating on the local 'Trusted Trader' scheme run by the council - here is their web site :- http://www.domesticplumbingheating.co.uk/ I also noticed that after they left, my electric shower no longer works, and will be speaking to them about that...

    Question re New GCH Installation

Thank you for this information. So my question now is - are the central heating installer company obliged to install a suitable soakaway, as described in the diagram gasmanstu72 posted above ? And is this a requirement for building regs ?

    Question re New GCH Installation

Thank you very much - I think I will take up both these issues with the installer. I think the gas pipe would certainly look a bit better with a conduit.

    Question re New GCH Installation

Hi I have just had a GCH system installed, and on inspecting the work I noticed the outside copper gas pipe going from main gas box to the boiler upstairs has no cover over it. I am just wondering is this normal practice - I would have expected it to have a conduit of some sort over it? Also...

Will New Radiator Affect Cabling ?

Hi, thank you - its a bit messy though under the carpet with a lot of nails etc so do you reckon it'd be alright under the window sill just sitting above the radiator?

Will New Radiator Affect Cabling ?

I am about to install a full new central heating system in my home and am just wondering about one potential problem - I have two cables, one for phone and one coax for Virgin Media TV/Broadband running alongside a skirting board in my living room where a radiator is going to be installed under...

Why Do I Have 3 Master Phone Sockets?

Yes that's right the cabling especially is very scruffy and ancient looking, all flaky paint over it - a nice new white cable will be in order

Why Do I Have 3 Master Phone Sockets?

I am wondering if the main master socket (the one the VM engineer connected the incoming VM phone socket to - ie in my front lobbie) being very old (pre 1991) would work OK with 2 new slave sockets - there might be some compatibility problem? Maybe 3 masters were put in for a reason - or did...
