Moving a radiator on closed system

It's just the same in every respect. There is one extremely unlikely issue though (which affects me, and probably only me in the whole world, but I'll mention it) - ensure you don't inadvertently bypass or compromise your filling loop when moving the rad. My filling loop is T'd from the...

    Central Heating Wiring

Hi Breezer - here's the URL for that wiring diagram I was referring to:- http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Technical/DataSheets/Horstmann/Pics.pdf I'm looking at the Honeywell 'Y Plan' layout, using a Horstmann C27 controller. Are you 100% that T+E is the standard cable to use for this...

    Central Heating Wiring

I'll let you know what the instructions say when it arrives from Screwfix tomorrow !! I'm looking at a typical wiring layout, which suggests a 3-port valve has an earth, a neutral, a live feed from a cylinder stat, another from a room stat, and a link back to the main Programmer. It's a PDF...

    HELP !! Mad dimmer switch.

I agree with Breezer - your switch doesn't care which wire is live and which returns to the lamp. All it's going to do for you is connect the two together (via some dimming electronics in your case). HTH

Take a look here --> http://www.kevinboone.com/cableselection_web.html Section 1.7 covers this specific topic pretty well. Hope this helps.

    Central Heating Wiring

Thanks to you both for replies so far. If it's usual to use T+E then that's what I'll do. I was really wondering about (eg) wiring to the Zone Valve, which has five differently coloured wires. I wondered if there was a 'special' type of cable (ie - five cored) for wiring that up, instead...

    Central Heating Wiring

Morning all - Can anyone please confirm the type/spec of cable required to wire up a central heating system, eg) between C/H Programmer and ancillaries like Zone Valves, Cylinder Stats, Room Stats etc ? Thanks in advance -

    Hot Water Cylinder - questions

Cheers breezer - this answers my question about where to connect flow and return. I've been looking around myself also this evening - still can't get a clear view on (eg) what motorised valves to choose. Looks like I can use a simple 2-port valve to allow flow through my indirect coil...

    Hot Water Cylinder - questions

Good Evening - I'm fitting a new indirect hot water cylinder. Haven't done one before, and would appreciate any comments on a couple of questions please. 1) I'm assuming the Flow goes in the bottom coil fitting, and the Return comes out of the top one. Is that OK? 2) Treating the...

    Warix Flange

Hello - Anyone got any experience of fitting a Warix Flange? Specifically, I've just fitted one for a pumped shower outlet. It's the highest point on the system (@ the top of the cylinder) so I feel it needs either an overflow or a manual bleed valve to evacuate any trapped air... but the...

    Open or sealed central heating

Hello again - As per previous post, there's no need to go into the loft. The filling loop consists of an isolated (ie, having a non-return valve fitted inline) connection between your cold water main and your heating circuit (usually into the return not the flow). You're lucky if you...

    Open or sealed central heating

Sealed systems run at about 1.5 bar, not high pressure in real terms. Joints, pipes, fittings and rads (etc) which are not leaking now, will not leak under 1.5 bar pressure. Sealed systems 1) get hotter quicker, 2) do not draw in air (as per previous post), which reduces corrosion, 3) do not...

    Trip out

Ok, yes - I'd definitely say you should check for a faulty device somewhere. As Graeme says, check things outdoors which are prone to water ingress, then look at anything else which can come on 'on its own', ie, even at night - immersion heaters in particular, when they corrode (which they...

    Custom Cable Lighting

Hello As per the previous posting, it's all a question of current draw. The formula you need is I=VA (Watts = Volts x Amps). This converts to A=I/V (Amps = Watts divided by Volts). Therefore (sorry to contradict previous post) each 50W lamp will draw 50/120 = 0.42 Amps. Here in...

    Trip out

Hello:- A few questions :- 1) Does the whole consumer unit trip or just a specific MCB? 2) Does your consumer unit have an RCD? If so, is it the RCD which is tripping? 3) Can you be more specific about 'the main trips from the supplier'? Is this a separate RCD between your...

    adding new light and switch

To answer your original question, it makes no difference but be sure you spur from a junction box which contains a LIVE and not a SWITCHED LIVE (ie, one which is only live when another light is switched on). NB it is not normal safe practice to spur a light off a ring main (as per previous...
