I'm in Devon. Just moved to the area. I had a full rewire done in my old house 3 bed, (18 months ago in the South East) it cost £2200 and there was no mention of not making good after the second fix.

The new cavaties are hacked out in the first fix. Then the plaster comes in. Then the electrician comes back (second fix) and puts the front covers on. It is at this point he states that 'others' are to make good plaster when he has finished.

Well I think £3200 for a straight forward rewire on 2 bed empty house (no carpets & ceilings down), anyone would expect the electrician to make good any damage he causes when putting the fronts on sockets. I think it is wrong to expect the customer to pay-out more money to tidy up.

I have some good news on the earthing spike. The electricians have just been around and they said its a simple notification to the electricity board and they will come out and rewire the earth and the spike can be removed. They did say a word but I have forgotten it - something like PME?

Thanks. I'm guessing it is very old. Some of the wiring coming out of the ceiling is still the corded type.

I thought the creak was due to the expanding and contracting pipes? What is it that a plumber / ch person should do correctly that stops copper pipes creaking?

Copper creaks. Does plastic creak? Can plastic be placed in the wall and then plastered over or does it need any special barrier before plastering?
