Making Good Chimney Breast Area

Hi

I need to have a chimney breast removed. The aim after the area is made good it to have built in wardrobes.

The chimney breast wall is an external wall and I don't want any damp creeping in. What are my options/choices for making good the chimney breast wall?

It would be best to allow ventilation at bottom of remaining flue and at the top.

Thank you. What should I do to the wall after chimney is taken down? Should it be rendered then skimmed over?

Yes basecoat then skim the wall.
