    Huh?

You could in my lounge since I have swapped out the 2A round pin 546 sockets for 1363s... But I will label them "LIGHTING ONLY". I was going to get them engraved, but the prices were silly.

    Advisory after new shower fitted

My guess would be his tester (whatever it be) is not one that would give an exact reading, but one that has lights for <2Ω, <1Ω, >2Ω ... But it is pointless saying "less than...", because it could be an OK reading! Did he mean to say "more than..."?

Fixing TT earthing problems and gas bonding for an EV charger

Possibly. The other explanation could be that the GPO attached a wire to the water pipe to use as an earth for the telephone line. Back in the day, it was used for a shared service or for lightning protection. Probably not the first time that BS documents are not in agreement.

Fuse box and Washer in same room

So even if the 300mm rule of thumb is not in the regs and may have been banded about by Paul Cook who you don't appear to think much of, can we agree that actually, keeping sockets a certain distance from a sink or hob/ cooker top and not putting CCUs over a hob or cooker top is not a bad idea?

Fixing TT earthing problems and gas bonding for an EV charger

    1. Can you post a picture of the gas meter showing the pipes attached to it? 2. If using a single bonding conductor, best practice is to run it unbroken from one to another, in your case from water to gas. This comes not from the electrical regulations but from BS7430, the code of practice for...

Fuse box and Washer in same room

Had to dig for this. I have print out of it from the very beginning of Part P. It is just guidance from Paul Cook, but I'm sure it made its way into the OSG at some point. But yes, you're right, it was never in 7671. Some things in 7671 are not specific. They are left to the readers...

Fuse box and Washer in same room

No...as you say, the OSG had/ has stuff that in it that was in the regs but is no longer (like the 2m thing about cooker isolators) and the heights may be Doc M, but in the OSG, it says "building regulations". But FWIW, I personally think it's sensible not to have a socket or switch too close...

Fuse box and Washer in same room

I can't find my latest 17th Edition OSG, but there was something in there about building regs requiring minimum and maximum heights and also there was mention of a 300mm minimum distance.

Fuse box and Washer in same room

There are distances in 7671 that you must adhere to and those are in the gas regs too. When we had a new gas fire put in in the lounge, I dragged a new feed in for the lighting. They were very careful to make sure the cable was the minimum distance from the gas pipe. But as far as the 300 that...

Is it me (us or us)?

I think the moulded plugs are a bit rubbish. The ones I have in the garage as a plug wiring exercise for the Scouts have a kind of lip either side that you can get your finger tips behind. But, if you have arthritis, they can be a struggle. The best one I had I can't find. It actually had a...

    Bus driver sacked OMG

Listen, I was having an end of college celebration in 1985, left the pub to be sick, walked down the road so I wasn't sick outside the gaff, threw up in a bin, walked back and got roughed up by the doorman. Slammed me up against the stone door frame and split my scalp open. Needed 6 stitches...
