    Lighting spur off socket

Can I run another light off a two switch lighting socket? I have a two switch lighting socket which runs two seperate spotlights in the ceiling. I have an outside light (halogen type) which I'd like to wire into the existing socket so I don't need to take half the wall off... I have a one...

    Buy a spare boiler ?

I would assume there would still be a market for normal boilers, even if people just need them for parts. The companies will still probably make them, even if just for the export market. I'm not sure how someone would know if you had an 'illegal' boiler...perhaps a detector van would come...

Free money...definately NOT about cold radiators :-)

Thanks for all the replies. Will, not sure what you mean by backfill with mains pressure. Could you elaborate? Thanks for all the other replies, I make take the whole thing off and do the garden hose trick. How do I deal with the pipes as they are, turn the water off and drain the system...

Free money...definately NOT about cold radiators :-)

Well ok maybe I lied  I've looked back through many of the posts on cold radiators, have tried some of the suggestions, and would like some more advice. OK here we go: Radiator itself it stoney cold. Two pipes come down to radiator. One is cold, runs down to the left bottom...

how to clean grout in bathroom tiles,

If the staining is not too bad, thick bleach (the really thick stuff) left on can help quite a lot. Do a test spot in case it does anything it shouldn't, but I've used in this in past on my bathroom tiles and it's brought them up a treat. Also the DIY shops do a tube which 'paints' over the...

    Blu-Tack removal

You could try using an oil based paint / primer. Blu tack is very greasy and it may be seeping through the paint. Oil based may block it

    Which glue to use?

thanks mate. Re the chipboard, I was just conscious of the boards having movement once they are on the floor. As you mention, as long as they are gluded (I assume normal wood glue is sufficient) I should be fine Thanks again

    Which glue to use?

The ongoing saga of my garage conversion... I now have the Kingspan insulation and chipboard to lay on the floor. Carpet tiles will go on top of chipboard to finish the job. A couple of questions if I may. 1. Should I stick the floorboards to the insulation, and should I stick the floor...

    UPDATE!! Wires for thermostat

Well I took the easier but not as good option, and got a electro mechanical timer put in place. Plug into PCB set time and it worked. That's it. I'm leaving it now. It's not 7 day, it doesn't have a thermostat, but it works, and believe you me, the wife is more than happy..!! Thanks for all...

    UPDATE!! Wires for thermostat

well things have gone from bad to worse. I tried to wire it to the 1 and 2, but got a bang (!) and now cannot get power at all to the unit. I've changed the fuse at the wall and it still does not work. Could the fuse on the board go? If so, I can pick one of these up at a DIY place to try...

    UPDATE!! Wires for thermostat

No, I didn't disconnect the mains, I think one of the other posts thought I had taken it off for the picture, but I hadn't. The mains comes into 10 9 and 8 on the left. So you're saying power into 1&2? Maybe whoever wired it did it the other way round. I will try it into 1 and 2 instead of 10...

    UPDATE!! Wires for thermostat

well slowly getting nowhere!! I have to leave terminals 10 9 8 wired, otherwise the boiler has no mains power and is dead. If I remove the wire between 3 and 4 and do nothing else, the boiler does not function (power but not heating etc). If I put the live from the thermo in 4 and neutral...

thanks for the reply. Yes terminal 4 is Live. I'll swap the blue wire for the thermo and see what happens tomorrow. Shall I wire the earth into 6?? what about the earth at the other end of the wire, can I just tape this off? cheers
