    Water pump - RCD tripping

You can have RCDs that are either Latching or Non Latching too on portable appliances so that can make a difference if your supply is switched off. In most circumstances you need an RCD to latch to on if it is switched by a timer, providing it is safe to restart (it would not be safe for a...

Hidden cables should be run horizontally or vertically in line with the extremeties of the accessory or back box (if surface type and is fractionally larger than the switch/socket etc. The larger the faceplate and/or the viewable back box the more area you have for cables choices when positioning

Well I think we all agree really then? A couple can mean two in some instances yet in other instances it can be intended to mean approx 2 or so in some contexts, we do not often say exactly two or approx 2 so it might be an indication of either by the user and by the listerner. No wonder we get...

    Plug tops / Plug caps?

It is an age old question - I am so old that I actually remember that it was common for the "better qualified Electricians and Electrical Engineers etc" To use the term Plugtop quite often. It was thought to be the industry standard. I suppose it was used to counter the hilarious situation of...

I suppose someone being nearly half his age could mean (in this case) half of 55 being 27.5 so the term "nearly" could be plus or minus some small amount , usually we might expect it to mean less than but who says that it can not mean more than?

"One of the most common potential problems arises in relation to percentage changes/differences if people use the wrong wording. To say that the price of gas has "increased TO 150% over the past X years" is obviously very different from "increased BY 150% over the past X years" " One of our...

    Two-pin plug anyone (shaver style)

Well, in practice, not much difference (unfortunately). so they often gets used interchangeably, which can be a bad thing sometimes because of tolerances it can put a undue strain on them - and that`s if they are made within their own spec which I suspect some are not quite either.
