    Economy 7 clock wrong

I suppose that is a habit that some folk use "Incredible" in the same way they might sometimes use "Fabulous", rather than not true they mean difficult to actually perceive that it is true , "Fabulous" means not true but is often taken to mean "Too Good to be True" or almost such, "Incredible"...

    Economy 7 clock wrong

I remember the old "clock" arrangement befor the "New Fangled White Meters". Supply was split of with a large clock that set the supply for the storage heater/immersion heater and wound up the clockwork spring to tension. It was set maually to the "Rack of the eye" by the DNO (Electricity Board)...

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

Correct. However , in my humble experience, an RCD that operates usually operates correctly and an RCD that does not operate does not operate at all. (Others may have different experiences ). That is why we test an RCD on its own with nothing else influencing it. Then we test circuit by circuit...

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

and I am a "Front Ender" - going back a while that was realistally all there was. When RCBOs first became do-able they were very expensive. Dual RCDs were a good improvement when one front end was the only other option but nowadays I would go for all RCBOs personally.

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

Don`t worry about that, most people do that and it is almost always never intentionally

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

Yes we could do with a little more clarity of which is an RCD and which is an MCB and what hapend in which order, helps make the possibilites/probabillities a bit clearer. If we know which was tried and in which order and the result (and sometimes how long after those actions it occoured too...

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

Yes we sometimes calls it "Divide and Conquer" and could point you in the direction of the fault (or faults contributing) , sometimes you do it and find out theat hey presto it is caused by the first or second thing you would have looked at but sometimes nearer the last few, either way it could...

    KITCHEN SOCKETS tripping RCD

When looking for a cause there may be several cumulate - so what you are calling not "the" cause could be the last straw that broke the camels back sort of thing (The ten Iron Anvils did not quite achieve it withat that last straw!)

External garage electricity wrongly connected to neighbours supply

Just to add (as touched on by JohnW2) - When someone mentioned to me years ago "An Earth is an Earth is an Earth!" I replied "No it isnt!" Of course I actually meant "Not Always" . The Earth ref in our own installation might well be somewhere around 35V or something if some heavy indudtry is...

Advice - First Fix Ring main or Radial?

Sounds like a sensible arrangement Harry. Whether Ring and/or Radial we often do such things. Sometimes we might cover the "most power" area with two or more circuits and sometimes those circuits might or might not contain other outlets in other rooms or part of - helps somtimes keep the number...

    Beok Thermostat Dry Contact

Once upon a day it was a not uncommon practice to wire a programmer from the mains and likewise the output( heating and/or cooling loads) . However some then started to require voltage free contacts (sometimes called dry contacts) therefore if mains output was actually required the link was put...

    Beok Thermostat Dry Contact

There should be a Destruction Manual with it. That should tell you all you need to know including what they actually mean by "Dry Contact", I would tend to assume it is a set of contacts which changes state from Closed to Open etc dependant upon temperature and have no voltage present iny any...

    Unknown Connector - help please?

Not having read the spec I have no idea whether that is so or not so. It is not something I would have considered one way or the other.

External garage electricity wrongly connected to neighbours supply

Yup, without a load an NE short would not cause an RCD to trip. Once a load is running then once the N to L balance gets to the threshold of an RCD trip current then yes it will trip. If that RCD short is at or near zero ohms the using a 30mA it would be in the region above 15mA , if that...

Is this article a Red Haddock ???

Just to add,as with nearly all of the conspiracy theories and "Scam" or "Fake News" type advertising there is usually a nugget of truth in there somewhere. Whether that nugget is one paragraph or one sentence or one word, it tends to be that which some readers latch onto then take everything...

Excellent run down of what is what there by Flameport. I find myself pretty much in agreement with what he has said.

Advice - First Fix Ring main or Radial?

Although Flameport and I have opposing views for Ring Final Circuits in general I think we can both agree with this part of his statement. My own opinion is that it a "Horses for Courses" sort of thing and depending upon all circumstances either a Ring or a Radial might be the most appropriate...

Is this article a Red Haddock ???

Flameport, I was thinking that there might be just a small nugget of truth in this part of the statement - not neccasraly all of that little bit of the statement though:- Edison pushed for DC power — smooth, steady electricity that ran efficiently through devices. Tesla promoted AC power —...
