    Coving mitre query

I forgot to add... don't forget that you will be cutting the coving upside down if using a box. When doing mitres, I would do a rough angled pencil mark on the underside edge as an aide memoire. The underside edge should be facing upwards. You are only cutting through "foam". The saw will be...

    Changing toilet

Agreed. Ideally they would be brass or stainless steel screws.

    Coving mitre query

You have a number of options. I used to use my Nobex Champion mitre saw. I would put pencil marks on the bed and up the front to make sure that the coving was sitting at the correct angle before cutting. You can do the same thing with a mitre box. Alternatively, you can purchase a profile guide

Decorators - how to make good

I pretty much agree with @Wayners but I would be concerned about the PVA making the existing paper bubble/ripple. When faced with such situations, I normally apply about 2" of shellac based paint (eg Zinsser BIN or Blockade by Smith and Rodgers) around the parameter of the plaster/paper so...

Paintable caulk for Goodhome Tough and durable matt white

To clean the brushes, I pour some household ammonia into a jar and dip the brush into it. The ammonia is alkali based so it breaks the paint down rather than simply diluting it. After washing the brush in the sink, no residue is left behind. Do not, under any circumstances, use the shellac base...

Paintable caulk for Goodhome Tough and durable matt white

I am a decorator. My go to caulk is Everbuild 125. When working with Dulux Trade emulsion, the paint seldom cracks. With other paints it may happen though. If it does, I apply a coat of shellac based paint, eg Zinnser BIN. As per @foxhole 's post. It is often used as a stain blocker. Oil...

    Spray Painting Radiator

I agree that a light rub would be beneficial but from the days when I used to spray MDF cabinets, I was not advised to sand above 360 grits because it could potentially polish the paint rather than abrade it. That said, yeah, 400 will probably be fine.

    Horizontal expansion vessel

I have seen the expansion tanks like that before. It has not been an issue. I am not a plumber. I am a decorator. If the system is maintaining mains pressure, I don't see what the problem is, The expansion "tank"is there to deal with potential drops in pressure. Again, I am not a plumber

    Leak from the ceiling

I have rotated the image so that it is the correct way up. I do not understand why your upside down image looked so different. Hopefully someone will be along to help you It is really weird, your upside down photo makes it look like the mortar is bulging out. I took the same image and...

    Leak from the ceiling

The coping stones have a drip channel on the underside. When it rains the water that runs off them should reach a channel routed into the underside so that it can not track backwards (towards the parapet). In your case, there is not visible drip channel. That said, your problem seems to be...

    Leak from the ceiling

Not my area of expertise, but the coping stones do not have an overhang.

Did this house fire REALLY start because of a turned off Air fryer OR faulty wiring?

Surely, the fire brigade can tell if the socket switch was on or off? The room doesn't look "too" bad. With regards to their "assessments". A few years ago a mate's decking caught fire. It blew out the windows at the back of the house and even melted the guttering at the top of the house...

New drill set ? For a sparky

Metal chucks are not very common on cordless combi drills. My Metabo has one, but drill, charger, box and battery is £300. https://tools4trade.co.uk/products/metabo-sb-18-ltx-3-bl-q-i-18v-brushless-combi-drill-with-1-x-4-0ah-battery-charger-metabox TBH, I initially purchased it because the...

    Manrose Humidistat Fan Problems

I used to have a Manrose XF100H. I was happy with it. On particularly humid days it would run but I would just isolate it. My downstairs fan was significantly more expensive. It was an Icon AirFlow 30. I could never work out if the PIR or the humidistat was the issue. One day, I twisted the...

Washing machine won't spin if it has something in the drum.

I had something similar with a Miele machine years ago. Someone here recommended checking the motor brushes. One brush had pretty much worn away completely, the other looked new. I swapped out the short brush and it worked perfectly. Worth a butchers. If it does a full wash when empty, I...

    Fair price for boiler install

I am west London based (currently Ealing). I am a decorator rather than a plumber but if you want I can PM you the details of a guy who has done lots of work for family members and some of my customers. His name is Devsi. (If you are local I can recommend Paul the plumber for non gas work- he...

What speed should I set my multi-tool to for removing tile grout?

I have only used my multitool to remove grout a few times. Low speed was useless- it resulted in a lot of vibration. In each case the tiles were ceramic so I had to watch out for the glazed edges of the tiles. I found that 50-70% speed worked best for me. I tried to stay in the middle of the...

    Router for diy

Likewise, I use a quarter inch Makita palm router for letting in door hinges and very minor jobs and a half inch Dewalt for bigger jobs such as Belfast sinks. The Dewalt is far too cumbersome for door hinges (in my opinion- unless you are using a proper routing template).
