    Fixing railway sleepers together?

Our garden slopes away and I have made a retaining wall out of railway sleepers to get a level lawn at the top. The wall is 7 sleepers wide, with 8 rsj's, the RSJ's are set in at different levels as the garden had a steeper slope in the middle. The left of the wall is 3sleepers high, with...

    Fixing railway sleepers together?

The rsj's aren't high enough to just sit the top layer in apart from the posts either end so I need to fix the middle 5 sleepers and the inner ends of the other 2. I was unfortunately out when they put the rsj's, otherwise I don't think I'd have done it like this! Had enough trouble sawing...

    Bits of plaster coming down

I have been on to the guy who did the calcs again this afternoon. He says he did get them wrong in the first place as he made no site visit and had not realised our chimney was coming out too. He would have expected the builder to flag the over engineering of the rsj before he ordered it and put...

    Bits of plaster coming down

Thanks for your reply. I had a wall taken down between the kitchen/dining room , so I think there was a bit of plasterboard put up in places but mainly the old artexed ceiling was just skimmed. I'm not sure why there is tape in the main area that it is coming down- there wouldn't have been joins...

    Cellar needs tanking

Hi I have quite a small cellar (about 9x12) that is always very damp and when it rains fills with 1-2 inches of water. I have recently had a quote for 10k to tank it and add a doorway with 4 steps down in to it(currently accessed from outside) so was thinking of doing it myself. Any advice/...

    Bits of plaster coming down

Hi I recently had my whole kitchen diner plastered there are now little patches of cracked paint appearing on the ceiling. I rubbed a couple of them quite gently and the plaster comes off and I can see a kind of mesh underneath. Is this likely to get worse? Should I just fill the holes in and...

    Fixing railway sleepers together?

Hi I have levelled up part of my back garden using railway sleepers help by RSJ's that I had concreted in by a builder. He advised me to drop the sleepers in to the RSJ's and then fix the top layer of sleepers on with coach bolts. I am having real problems finding any, looked online been to...
