please help... power keeps cutting off!

Your iron is the problem, not your electrics. Sounds like it has developed an earth leakage fault which is tripping your RCD main switch. That switch may cover some or all the sockets in your house, so every time you use the iron in an RCD protected socket, your main switch will trip. This is...

And here I am on a friend's computer running IE7 without any problems with diynot. Looks like us IE6 users will be banished to Screwfix!

    DIYnot hanging

I second that, been having exactly the same problem at work for several weeks now. I am on a network of several hundred computers running IE6. I think its some sort of conflict between IE6 and DIYNOT. Does not happen with IE5 (me here at home now). Don't know if IE7 users have an issue with this?

    Pipes - Electric Cables

I found some 1.5 twin and earth wrapped around my central heating feed pipe when lifting the floorboards in our bedroom. Wrapped tight like a snake around its prey. The plumbers who installed our central heating 18 years ago must have unknowingly done it when threading the pipes under the...

    DIYnot Problems viewing forums.

Sorry for the delay in responding. I have the forum saved in my favourites at work under http://www.diynot.com/forums and it behaves as above when I try and load it. I can however go into other websites at work including http://www.diynot.com/ without any problems. Thanks Marshman, but...

    DIYnot Problems viewing forums.

I may be having similar problems, but only on my office computer at work. I am posting this from my home computer (Windows Me) and all seems well. But I normally log on and post at work (Windows XP). When I log on to the forum at work the forum site loads normally until right at the end when...

    Sockets question

I like ring circuits. They are imbued with a certain poetic symmetry and artistic merit you just don't find with a radial circuit.

    is Gordon on his way

We have an unelected leader in charge of a country. Isn't that what happens in a dictatorship? Agreed he is useless and has to go. An adequate bean counter does not make a good Prime Minister.

what about this for a rip off

I hope that price includes fitting, full valet, and a night with the service manager’s daughter :D Go to a scrap yard, real or online.

    is this notifiable

Oh yes. And frankly my dear, I would not notify this work if I was doing it in my own home. Who will know about it or care if it’s done properly? But the OP’s dilemma is that he is (I think) doing it in somebody else’s home…

    is this notifiable

It varies. Have a look on your Council’s website and / or give the BCO a ring. At a guess anything between £50 and £250+. Given the nature of the work, hopefully yours will be at the lower end of their charging scales. But then it might be a fixed charge no matter what the work is :(...

Light switch route - is this legal?

I’m not sure the 17th goes as far as doing away with the permitted zones, but I stand to be corrected. EDIT, Thanks plugwash

I vote with bongos :D Or I would if there was one of those vote thingies at the top of the thread. Bongos – if we say hello to each other on here 5,000 times they might let us in to the secret forum

    1 of lifes mysteries.

I think the same observations can apply to the character of Xena herself (apart from the two marriages). She became pregnant in Season 5 of Warrior Princess, and that is not a feat she could have achieved with Gabrielle. The character Xena was essentially heterosexual, like Lawless. I prefer...
