    what is the best downlight

Lots of negative opinions on downlights. Can I ask why? What's a decent alternative to giving decent light that looks decent? Thanks

    Wires in insulation

No - 100m of celotex between rafters, 50mm of celotex below rafters and then plasterboard. I'm thinking that adding a 75mm void between celotex and plasterboard is required. 50mm would be preferred but can't even find downlights to go into this space. Phillips do one which only needs a 60m void...

    Wires in insulation

So do I just cut a small groove in the insulation to put wires between plasterboard and celotex? With regards to the lights, do you have any examples? Don't really want surface mount unless they are very slim. The slimmest built in ones I have found still need a 75mm depth behind the plasterboard?

    Wires in insulation

What is standard proactive for fitting wires in the insulation of a vaulted ceiling or flat roof for that matter. So when you have 100+ of celotex between rafters and then 50mm below then plasterboard. Where do you stick your lighting wires and then if you have some fire rated downlights do you...

    Gable ladder sizes

I'm going to use pvc 150mm Barge board. Can I use 4x2 timber for the ladders and end rafter? The overhang will be 150mm so don't see an issue with strength. Thanks

Roof window on a low pitch roof

Well they make a seperate collar as above but the standard flashing is designed to be used on 15 degree roofs. This is a reply I got from them regarding the collar - "Felt Colar is a membrane that creates the seal around the window to ensure the window is water tight. However this is not an...

Roof window on a low pitch roof

You me a the flashing kit? Or do you mean the extra foam kit that you can buy for velux to stop cold bridging etc? I think keylight windows have this built in with an expanding foam piece.

Roof window on a low pitch roof

Hi all. I will be fitting 4x Keylight 780 x 1400 using their double flashing kits (so I will have 2x lots of double windows with no tiles inbetween) onto a 15 degree new build roof, the tiles will be Marley Mendip tiles. I know that 15 degrees is on the limit for roof windows and have heard some...

    Birds mouth seat cut overhang

I was thinking.... Many people seem to secure the top of their rafters on a lean to roof to the header plate with 4 nails (two each side). This fixing method must have the same effect as my cut that I'm talking about as the nails do not pick up the bottom of the wood. I will be using hangers...
