But that's not what the flag hangers say, is it? And if it is what they say, how come they're only saying it now? If it's all about patriotism, why weren't these people hanging flags from lamp posts 10 years ago or 20 years ago?

That's an extremely ignorant point of view. People who were born here (of all colours, white included) have said they feel uncomfortable (to say the least) with the flags up. We all know the flags don't represent patriotism.

If it's a massive issue removing it, could you mask, sand and spray paint it? If the other panels you buy have a RAL number, you just get paint with the same number.

I give the plaster a quick sand with the finest paper where there are imperfections. Then I wipe over with a very slightly damp microfibre cloth. Then I mist coat with Dulux Trade Matt emulsion watered down 15%.
