    Neaten this pipework

UPDATE - wanted to share how I got on earlier today. System pressurised again and nothing has burst yet! There’s probably many things I’ve misunderstood and done badly. I would welcome your feedback as I’d like to learn for next time. Thanks again guys. Really appreciated your advice with this

    Draining a combi boiler

So if I am doing this work over a couple of days, I need to fill up the system again with rad pipes capped off as else there will be no hot water. And then the following day I need to drain down again, put the rad in and fill up again. Have I got this right? Thanks for your help.

    Draining a combi boiler

I need to do some maintenance on a rad and wanted to check if the boiler can continue to run with 0 pressure on the boiler and whether this will affect hot water supply?

    Soldering near cable

Can I safely solder in here? I need to extend these pipes down for radiator fitting. If yes, what can I use to protect the cable from the flame? Thanks in advance.

    Neaten this pipework

I think you are suggesting that both pipes come out around here? You can see that the current white pipe is coming out at an angle and I think that's because of the skirting board sitting proud of the level the pipe sits in within the vertical boxing. How will I be able to have these pipes...

    Neaten this pipework

Sorry for the typo! Yes, I was suggesting that I raise the new rad and have the pipes running below it. As per your suggestion, I can run the horizontal pipe level with the rad valves and then 2-elbows into the first valve. I guess the other sides pipe would run just under the rad and then...

    Neaten this pipework

I was thinking of easing the new rad slightly and running pipes below that and then come up. Advisable?

    Neaten this pipework

I would then come up where the TRV is and then elbow away from the wall and then elbow into the TRV. Does that sound about right?

What can I replace this with?

Went with this in the end. A slight compromise but does the job and plenty of space for expansion.

    Neaten this pipework

It will look tidier. And the wall can be painted without pipes on show

    Neaten this pipework

I was just proposing that I drop down to 10mm from where the 15mm currently exit the vertical boxing. I can then bury them behind the plaster and bend then around to connect to the radiator valves. Would that be okay do you think?

    Neaten this pipework

This was done by the builder (come plumber) around 25 years ago. I thought there may be a way to bury the pipes behind the wall and skim it over. Could I drop to 10mm plastic pipe when the copper comes out of the vertical wooden boxing and then fit a rad with a floating pipe arrangement? The...

    Neaten this pipework

This rad is leaking and needs attention. Since it’s a very old radiator, I thought I would replace it and tidy up the pipework. I was thinking I come out of the vertical boxing and then conceal the pipes but that would require a long horizontal chase which I think is not recommended. Can I...

What can I replace this with?

Feels like a lot of work to cut out sections for all this stuff. Could I use a decent case which has a compartment for each bit type e.g. wood bits, metal bits, etc. it will just mean that I’d have to look through that compartment for the bit I am after. I wanted to avoid chucking all of it...

What can I replace this with?

This is my go-to for any jobs where I might need to drill/screw. It has all the common bits and I replace them when required. I have lots of other bits that are just stashed in a tote and I only go there if the size isn’t in this case. This case has given up. How can I replace this setup...

    Blanking plate

This is my garage consumer unit. I can put in lots of those individual blanking plates but was wondering if there’s a combined blanking insert that I can buy and how do I know if it’s compatible with this CU. Thanks in advance.

    Concreting this section

Could I buy the aggregate on its own and mix with sand and cement that I already have? Or not worth it?

    Concreting this section

Can I use my existing bags of sand in some way? Also, do I need to use MOT1 and crush it down?

    Concreting this section

I’ve got around 8 bags of building sand and 3 of cement. I was considering paving slabs for this section but perhaps, I should concrete it. Can I have some advice and instructions for this please. Thanks in advance.

    Paving slabs on soil

Having a rethink on this. I’ve got 8 bags of sand and 3 cement. Can I mix these or add some ballast to fill this space in instead?
