Right. I just rang the plumber and was polite! I said "is this a condensing boiler?" and he said no, it's not a condenser, it's a normal combi but it is 'Band A'. Hmmm. Told him I checked the boiler database thing online and it says the Halstead Ace High is Band D - and that in any case...

Just tried it - yes the left hand pipe does get hot (at the top, by the boiler above the filling loop - much less warm lower down). Is that bad, then?

I hear what people are saying about our responsibilities and of course it was daft to just go on a recommend without checking the guy's CORGI first, but to be honest I'm a dunce when it comes to these sort of things and I don't know how the hell...

Definitely asked for a condensing boiler - had a long discussion with him about how they worked, how much they might save us in gas bills, etc. Didn't check his CORGI credentials beforehand (I know, I know... really stupid, we just relied on a neighbours recommend), so I have a bad feeling...

[/url] Thanks ChrisR. He just left the installation guide, instructions etc. So yes, looks very dodgy. Boiler looks new, was in a sealed box etc, but I checked the Halstead website and that model isn't in their 2008 price list. We're in a pretty bog standard 3 bed semi, so I can't believe...

Thanks for advice crockett. There's no other pipe. I assume therefore we don't pay the fella and I have to get a little bit angry... OK, do I just ask him for money off or is this whole thing a bunch of crap that needs taking out? Cheers.

Thanks crockett. There is a one copper pipe out of the bottom of the boiler that goes straight out through the wall to outside.

Supplementary question - and this shows what a luddite I am - if this boiler ain't a condensing one, does that matter? Should it be? The money ain't in his bank yet, so if we have a decent reason not to pay him then that's what we'll do. To be honest, we haven't checked this fella's...

On the front of the instructions it says the Appliance number is: 47 333 16 Cheers for replies so far!
