Geberit vs Villeroy & Boch - 80mm concealed cisterns

Hello Just wondering if anyone has any experience of fitting or having an 80mm slimline concealed toilet cistern for a floor standing back-to-wall toilet. I know the risks of concealed cisterns so I'm trying to fit a decent one and I've whittled it down to Geberit Sigma 80 or Villeroy & Boch...

backerboard and extra noggings/taped joints vs tanked plasterboard

Thanks simplesteve. I've just been tallying up. The cost of the tape is as much as the board so I'm inclined to do your way. I could go with moisture resistant plasterboard but I'd also like to insulate the external walls. The PIR board had a foil surface - is there a way to stick p/b to it...

backerboard and extra noggings/taped joints vs tanked plasterboard

I'm renovating a bathroom and have ground to a halt on the way forward. Two walls are stud walls with noggings for normal size plasterboard, two are external cavity walls with a plaster scratch coat. I had in mind to use waterproof backerboard on the areas that would have direct contact with...

How to prep this surface for matt emulsion?

Thanks Wayners. Yes, the data sheet says all that - prepare by priming bare surfaces with their primer or sanding down gloss surfaces. Then seal with a 5/10% first coat. It'll be Johnstone's Perfect Matt. So you say put on a coat of Gardz then 3 coats of the undiluted Perfect Matt...

How to prep this surface for matt emulsion?

Hello, Hope you can advise me here. Having started flicking a bit of loose paint off a plastered wall, I ended up peeling the lot off, The paint came off one wall in its entirety and is down to the bare plaster. It’s just the one colour and I assume when it was first done they hadn’t done...

    Moisture proof or ordinary plasterboard

Thanks. This is just the bathroom ceiling. I’ve figured out what to do in wet and tiled areas. From what I’ve read the green board is now ‘best practice’ in damp areas. I know it can be left exposed and it will resist moisture. What I don’t get is whether a skim and coat of paint on...

    Moisture proof or ordinary plasterboard

Help please! I had anticipated using the green moisture proof plasterboard on the ceilings and areas in the bathroom that won’t have direct contact with water. It’ll be part tiled and part painted. My plasterer is telling me it’s a waste of money and that all it needs is a skim coat and...

Cable for hot water cylinder and UFH

So you’re saying that insulation below the tiles will make a noticeable difference? Was it PIR board or rockwool? I’d like to save on the expense of UFH where possible but I had it in a previous place. The room was tiny and had no radiator so in winter it was freezing The UFH took the edge...

Cable for hot water cylinder and UFH

Yes, I’m putting in 22mm pipes to boost the flow rate. I’d like to avoid the expense if possible so I’ll see how it goes. But if I do need a cylinder I want to put the pipes and cable in place so the place doesn’t need to be torn apart later on. That intrigues me - for me it’s always been the...

Cable for hot water cylinder and UFH

Thank you. In my previous place the combi boiler was a pain if you wanted to run two showers at the same time or flush the loo without the flow dropping. I think that’s usual with combis so I’m thinking ahead. The UFH is only to take the edge off the tiles, there will be radiators. But yes...

Cable for hot water cylinder and UFH

Hello I’m looking to run cable for underfloor heating to a bathroom and an en suite directly back to the consumer unit as I’ve read that’s what’s recommended (although possibly not mandatory). It’s a total of 12.5 sq m and 100w mat so I make that 1.2 kW. However at some point in the future...

Is it worth running 22mm from 20mm mains?

Yes, I've since read it should be as close as possible to the appliance. Since the dishwasher and washing machine are in the same room but on different branches, should there be one on each ? Is there much difference between Flomasta or Sioux Chief arresters?

PIR plasterboard fixings - plastic cover caps or tape over?

Yes, I’m following Charlie.. I’m thinking dot and dab will better on a full wall where I need to level it up, and maybe foam on the reveals. Why do you prefer foam, and which brand?

Is it worth running 22mm from 20mm mains?

Ok thanks, will get one sorted. So should it go after the stopcock and pressure reducing valve and before it tees off, so that it protects everything, not just the boiler?

PIR plasterboard fixings - plastic cover caps or tape over?

Thanks. Will be using Knauf adhesive and tapered edge PIR. I thought the mechanical fixing was advised e.g in case of fire - not as many fixings as you would if it was the primary fix?

Is it worth running 22mm from 20mm mains?

No, I'm not on a water meter and didn't know that stopcocks had them. I've got a plastic twist one on the MDPE pipe outside and will have a Hep20 ball valve on the inside pipe. Should water companies advise you to do this when getting a meter? I don't recall this at my previous house, I'm...

PIR plasterboard fixings - plastic cover caps or tape over?

Hello I'm putting up 62.5mm PIR plasterboard via dot and dab and was going to use Timco metal PIR fixings as a secondary mechanical fixing. I planned to tape over the heads but I see they do plastic cover caps which says 'help' eliminate cold bridging. Are they a good idea or will taping...

Is it worth running 22mm from 20mm mains?

Thanks dilalio So it says to fit one to the DHW inlet 'if it contains a back flow prevention device or non return valve...' . From what I've searched on, a pressure reducing valve is neither of these?

Is it worth running 22mm from 20mm mains?

This is news, have never come across this before. It's an Ideal Atlantic Combi 35W. So do you fit it as a matter of course and where? The pipe to the boiler comes in under the floor and there's an elbow up to the boiler.

Is it worth running 22mm from 20mm mains?

Thanks for the explanation. I’ll see if I can identify the pipe brand otherwise it sounds like it’ll be trial and error until I get a snug fitting.
