RENEWABLE ENERGY: What's YOUR main cause for concern?

32 yrs. ago I used to order and collect them by the three dozen from the producers on a monthly basis as I was the under manager / maintenance guy for an fairly big electro / mechanical hire / sales company . These older UK made ones also had the same warning but it gave the cross...

Replacing oven with no RCD protection

John, Thanks very much for the last post. It suddenly squares the circle for me in many aspects of things I've done & why I did them to DEFENCE standards rather than to the lower standard wiring regs.

Replacing oven with no RCD protection

That's interesting John For years I've understood that they were with a legal penalty if you caught doing otherwise whether you were or were not in possession of the latest certificate of passing the regulation exam I thought the regs became legislated law about 10 years ago . I...

Replacing oven with no RCD protection

Interesting .. Can a customer still legally disconnect the oven and take it with them if they move? Would this action cause a change in interpretation to now require a circuit protection device?

Replacing oven with no RCD protection

Does not the fact that the CU & most likely the wiring in the place is nearly 35 years old indicate the serious need for a complete new system in any case rather than keeping it? I'd certainly sympathetically point that out to the customer and also advise them that not renewing the system...

Swampy, Those pictures speak a thousand words and some . I think it is identical but just branded different to the one we have. As every thing is almost free I'll set up a platform and try gently easing the whole unit up & on to it once my lass has crawled in the roof void on some...

Thank you very much Swampy, That's what I was after ....... that 5 - 10 mm figure. It looks like I'll have to cut a few long thin wedges and ease the sides away from the chimney frame once I've taken a row of tiles from each side , as there are no visible or accessible fixing screws or...

@ PrenticeBoyofDerry, Hi yet again sorry to be such a pest there is more to this darn chimney than meets the eye. I think the extractor is supposed to be fixed to the wall at mere 700 mm above the hob. this one is a tad over 780mm , if this is true I can see why the cover might...

Yup a good look tells me there are no screws on show , they might be hiding behind some finishing architrave that hides the badly fitted over shelf . I think I'll get the step ladder out tomorrow and give it a double decoke as there is so much grease on the cupboard tops I'd be stuck like...
