    Cleaning plate heat exchanger issues

Hi all, Going to be doing this shortly and I’ve read numerous threads but the info is contradictory and I’m going round in circles. I’m seeing people say don’t use hydrochloric acid to clean the plate heat exchanger but then seeing people say to use spirit of salts. From what I gather, they’re...

Combi boiler hot water keeps cutting out

What’s the best way to clean the plate hex? Just stick it in a bowl of descaler?

    Vaillant combi boiler problem

Did you ever get to the bottom of this, Dave? I’m having the exact same issue with the same boiler. Appreciate it was a while ago now.

Combi boiler hot water keeps cutting out

Not had a chance to do this yet but will try when I can. I just had a shower and thought I’d observe the temp reading on the boiler (it’s basically next to the shower). It gets to 60c then cuts out. Drops to 50c then kicks back in. Gets back up to 60 and cuts out again. It repeats like this but...

Combi boiler hot water keeps cutting out

Stupid question possibly. But how do I test the flow rate? I think it’s set to 55 but will check in the morning.

Combi boiler hot water keeps cutting out

If it’s not fed through a cartridge, ie directly from 2 taps. What else could cause it? Is it just a case of closing the cold feed slightly so that it doesn’t overpower the hot?

Combi boiler hot water keeps cutting out

Hi all, I’ve got a vaillant ecotec plus 831. When I run the shower off it, the hot water seems to come and go. The shower is above the boiler slightly but in the same room so it’s a very small run. Hot water elsewhere seems to be fine. It’s not got loads of pressure but going freezing cold mid...

    Cutting tile edges off

Thanks. I’ve got one. It’s just not cutting straight for some reason. But I’ve managed to get through it. Can go surprisingly thin on the score and snap cutter too.

    Cutting tile edges off

Hi I’m just getting to the stage where I’m doing the cut for the top row. I’m using porcelain tiles and I’ve got to cut between 5 and 15mm off the edge for it to fit. Given the size of the cut, my snap cutter won’t work. I’ve got an electric tile cutter and a disc on an angle grinder. What...

    Euro to British adapters

Pretty sure. Used callipers to measure. But I get where you’re coming from. Most of them seem to be the 40mm European ones when you search online. I’ll double check it tomorrow.

    Euro to British adapters

Yeah. Could look quite messy by the time it’s finished then. Wary about the length of all the adaptations. I might be better served just buying a new waste for it then? I’m hoping the euro sinks don’t have different sized wastes but will need to measure it in the morning.

    Euro to British adapters

Hi I got a sink off eBay and it’s got a euro waste fitted. The outer diameter is 50mm. I’m really struggling to find an adapter to get it to a British standard 40mm waste. Has anyone had a similar issue? Wondering if it’s easier to just buy a different waste. Appreciate any suggestions...

    Best place for bathroom vent?

I’ve got a wall mounted one in that sort of location upstairs in the en suite and it seems to do very little if I’m honest. May just need turning up in fairness. But the inline does seem to be quoted as shifting much more in volume versus the wall equivalents.

    Best place for bathroom vent?

Hi As title suggests. Unsure where to place my vent. I’ve got an inline vent, plan is to vent it out of a roof tile and so it needs to be on the ceiling. I’ve attached a drawing of the layout. Wary I don’t want it between the spotlights as it’ll look odd. But the steel from our loft conversion...

    Low flow rate

Just rechecked the taps on the sink and in fairness they aren’t that powerful either. I’m thinking it must be the valves then. Thanks for the info though. Will see how much it annoys me over the coming months as to whether I change it!

    Low flow rate

Yeah, it was the best of a bad situation as really limited on height so I cut that into the ceiling somewhat and cladded round it. Sounds terrible but actually got it looking ok. Its usable, just would prefer a bit more flow in the shower, but looking to sell the house this year anyway so...

    Low flow rate

Can't find the listing now but it was basically one like this.

    Low flow rate

I wonder if its the shower unit itself. The taps that run off the same pipe seem fine. I'm reluctant to change the valves as it means cutting the wall open.

    Low flow rate

Ah that could be it! I used some speed fit isolators onto copper, so they could be smaller bore? This is what I used https://www.screwfix.com/p/jg-speedfit-15sv-isolating-valves-15mm-5-pack/25911 Not clear from the description.

    Low flow rate

Hi I’ve installed a new bathroom in my dormer conversion. The flow rate of hot water to the rest of the house is fine. However, in the new bathroom it’s pretty feeble. The only thing I can think of is that it sits above the boiler whereas the other 2 bathrooms are lower. It’s a combi boiler so...
