Adding battens to a wall with piers

I have a wall with several piers and I just want to add wooden battens similar to the photo I have attached here. 1) Could please tell me what this type of wall is called (if it has a name) 2) Also, what type of wood I need for a pro finish. I have seen a similar wall (but the battens were...

    cracks in the ceiling

If it's a fine hairline crack, is it best to just put the tape over it (as suggested above) or to open up and secure with filler and then tape over etc etc ?

    Boiler temp for radiator water

We have had a new system boiler (Glowworm R18) fitted in the property we rent out. The central heating temp is showing 75 degrees on the readout. The central heating system is probably about 20 or 30 years old. Does such a high temp put added pressure on the pipes, valves and joints ? Would...

Glowworm Energy 35C combi frost setting

Thanks SGM, I just wondered if the setting temp could be changed but I from what you say it’s fixed in the software. 12 degrees just seems a little too high compared to other boilers.

How is this happening in this county

It started with Thatcher and went down hill thereafter. Also, not solely blaming immigration ...... but it certainly doesn't help

Glowworm Energy 35C combi frost setting

Can the frost setting temperature of a Glowworm Energy 35C combi boiler be changed ? Currently, it is set at its default of 12 degrees C. Thank you.

LS-X inside a compression joint - let it dry ?

We shall have a look tomorrow, thank you for your suggestions.

LS-X inside a compression joint - let it dry ?

Good point that is so obvious when you think about it. I hadn't thought about it :(

LS-X inside a compression joint - let it dry ?

We have a compression joint that has a very tiny weep, hardly anything. We nipped it up and it hasn't solved it. Other compression joints on the same job have sealed perfectly. All variables that we have control over are the same. From what I have read, paste is linseed oil and chalk. That...

    That's good to know, thanks.

    Using existing olive on pipe

Denouement ... The non return valve and the mini expansion vessel ahead of it did the job ie the combi no longer fires up (the fan at least) when the cold water taps are turned off. Fitting the non return valve is a faff but usually necessary if you have a water meter. The configuration we...

LS-X inside a compression joint - let it dry ?

If you use LS-X inside a compression joint (as an alternative to say, PTFE tape), do you need to let it 'dry' before repressurizing the cold water mains ? Thank you

    Using existing olive on pipe

We shall be doing the work tomorrow, guess I'll find out then. In my personal experience, it seems unpredictable as to whether you get brass or copper olives with compression fittings. I'd read that copper is preferable when using PEX pipe - I suppose that make sense as copper is softer than...

    Using existing olive on pipe

Thank you all for making very helpful suggestions. My primary concern is the bottom tee underneath the magnetic scale inhibitor. Not only is it very short and hard to cut cleanly if necessary, I have no idea of the physical strength of a such a joint. If it leaked, I would be in a very...

    Using existing olive on pipe

Want to remove the useless scale reducer and put in an isolator, none return valve and mini expansion vessel. The only room we have is the space to right of the pipes. We need to use a full flow 22mm none return valve so as to not reduce flow to the combi too much. The cold water pipe leaving...

    Using existing olive on pipe

So PTFE is preferable to LS-X / compound in this specific example ?

    Using existing olive on pipe

Point 1. concerns me slightly because we are actually going to be removing a compression fitted magnetic scale inhibitor. I just assumed that the nut /olive combination would be standard. Another thing to worry about. Using the pencil sounds like a smart idea to apply the PTFE. Thanks for that...
