Alarm triggered on power shutdown Optima Compact G4 panel?

Hi all. I plugged in a faulty appliance that caused the main breaker to trip so the panel lost power. It went into alarm mode, and the first thing I did was head for the panel, but no power on it? No LED's or keypad lighting? the bell box is mounted low down as it is on an outhouse - and...

Best method to stiffen up floor joists and stop twisting

Hi all, I've taken down my lounge ceiling and exposed the floor joists above, I notice there are pretty big gaps either side of them, so they move about and can twist What is the best method of securing them? I'm thinking either expanding foam or grip fill? Cheers

    Valliant eco tec controller vr350

Hi all. Im looking to get the above boiler and controller fitted. Im confused about the controller, does it sit in the boiler fascia? If so i guess i would need to access the boiler to override the timed functions? Is it possible to also fit a room stat for manual override control? Thanks

    Combi boiler upgrade advice

Oh dear what have I started  That was a rough quote I think, he said he would get back to us with a more official one. I think that is all the work that needs doing. Although the current boiler is so close to the back door frame that I could not really box it in properly so I would...

Hi, thanks for the reply! Its only me and my lady at the moment, and no sign of any kids yet ;) so I guess a combi would still be the way to go, especially seems as we already have one fitted. Are there any brands that are known to be more eco friendly than others, or any that are prone to...

    Corking for silicone sealant backing?

Hi all. I have almost finished doing the kitchen. I have a gap of about 10-15mm down the back of the hob (between the worktop and the wall). I could just fill it with silicone or caulking but I'd rather not because a lot will go in there lol. A few years ago I used to work as a window fitter...

    Alarm power cabling

Thanks for the reply - not quite sure what you mean by this though? - and the usual one is; As you are `adding ` circuit` it needs to be done by a PART P contractor (i know its a pain but you have to be informed of this, if you don't want to have ana electrical contractor do it, thats...

    Alarm power cabling

Hi, thanks I did think that about the spur, I'll change it for a non switched one. Although the consumer unit is mounted directly below it and one of the breakers is labelled 'security system' lol. Would an installer leave it like that?

    Alarm power cabling

Hi all, Just got the the stage where I need to feed the cables into my alarm back box. I have put a switched spur right under the unit. What size cable do I have to use to run into the alarm? 2.5mm seems a bit overkill seems as the current will be tiny? Thanks

    Thermostat wiring cable size

Hi all, I need to fit a thermostat to my fairly old boiler. It uses a mains powered stat, so I need to run live, neutral, earth and switch wire to my stat. Can I use 1.5m 3 core + earth or does it have to be 2.5mm 3 core + earth? The boiler says it needs a 3 amp spur for power so there...
