treu. also the screws. the air will be slightly less dense under the bath too when i use as it will be warmer, giving some lift, so ive got that to look forward to

    structural considerations for a bath

"It's not just the bath they're sharing - it's also a huge amount of water. Nice, dense, water." yup, 1kg per litre give or take.......calculated that in already ...we did that earlier in the thread

    structural considerations for a bath

" you're probably over-thinking all this " yes...i do that! thanks tony. appreciate it. i'm going with the joist sandwich, as im going to build a plinth anyway, may as well do it on the actual joists. thanks to you all.

    structural considerations for a bath

Rather than sistering, what if I put 8 x 2 above the existing joists ..so we have a 8x2 --floorboard--8x2 sandwich. Will this have same structural effect as sistering? I'm going to puth the bath on a plinth anyway so this is a lot easier...

    structural considerations for a bath

forget weight of water - i wont! i haven't! i already included it! lay ply - i am going to make a step, a big frame for the bath to sit on, i already said that...its gonna be at least made out of 2 x 8 , i need to build a step up to it anyway. i could lay that on a layer of ply, which then sits...

and actually, i made it from 8 x 2 simply because of the load tables.....

    structural considerations for a bath

"(Both morally and structurally.)" -lol - depends who it is...the wife might have a different opinion! tony - i appreciate that massively, i have a degree in physics from a long time ago. i think you can tell i didn't do applied physics (engineering)...and i also appreciate that people spend a...

    structural considerations for a bath

woody - almost mate, but not quite - the main house is 1910's...it was extended twice, in the 60's and 80's...the bathroom is actually split across the bit where they extended the old 1910 house in the 80's. the old back wall is in the middle of it. you can see it in the video. i thank you for...

    structural considerations for a bath

That's correct it's not aquatic science..its physics. If it was a cast iron bath the answer might be different. The definition of "domestic bath" is meaningless unless you can define it in terms of a maximum load, and domestic floor carrying capabilities similar. A house from 1910 (which mine...

    structural considerations for a bath

yes, but what kind of floor and what kind of bath?? if i took my bath as being my old 8' x 2.5' x 2.5' fishtank, im not sure your statement is true...

    structural considerations for a bath

EDIT*** just realised that my bath is not 600 wide it is 850. ive changed calcs below thanks tony. maybe you can help me understand though. this has always foxed me the tables i have read say max load of 1.5kn/m2 for those joists (well, actually, should be able to get more than that as the...

    structural considerations for a bath

afternoon everyone, thanks in advance for your time. i am having a go at redoing my bathroom .... EDIT**** i have an 1800 x 850 bath which i would imagine weighs quite a lot with 2 people and water in it. i have 8" x 2" joists at 13" centres running parallel to the long edge of the bath...

change to unvented or dont bother?

thanks again...more questions then.... loft cisterns - i hadnt even thought of that. we have 2 (one big for the water and one small for the heating?) the small one is barely above the height of the rads upstairs. no idea what kind of insulation they have but i will check. any advantages to...
