First time shower fitting and tiling

Your tray will need to be bedded down on the floor so make sure the area below the tray is strong enough to support it as any flex in the floor is bad. Add noggings to strengthen if required when you've got the floor up to fit the waste. The instructions will probably say to use a weak sand and...

First time shower fitting and tiling

Hello Fridge03, ply would be a good idea under tile backer boards as it will provide something solid to fix your shower valve and fixtures to. In addition to this work out where the frame enclosure will be put in extra studwork here rather than just relying on the ply. I'd use a construction...

No problem, good luck with it all.

    Grout shading

As said it could be that you've over wet it or it's not quite dry yet. If the tiles are porcelain the grout will take longer to dry. If the colour doesn't improve try running a small piece of sandpaper over the joints to remove the very outer layer.

    Overtile or not

Hello ross94, the big issue here is the weight you are adding to your existing tiles by tiling over them. All substrates have a maximum weight limit after which there is a risk of debonding. Plaster skimmed walls have a max weight is 20kg sqm, bare plasterboard is 32kg sqm, tile backer boards...

Tiling onto P5 Tongue and Groove Chipboard Floor Panel

For bathroom 1 it sounds like you've committed to tiling over the ply so you'll have to make sure your adhesive is suitable for tiling over wooden substrates and follow the instructions. It will then be a case of putting your trust in the quality of the plywood and hope you don't have any...

    Block wall wetroom

Minimum thickness for solid walls is 12.5mm carlsbergy. It is for Marmox anyway, which tends to be the one I use most often, but check with whichever one you choose.

    Block wall wetroom

I honestly can't remember which toilet frame was used on that, I'll see if I can find out. Upstairs I would replace all the surrounding floor with the 22mm No More Ply, it's tongue and grooved and rock solid when fixed. For a wet room it's definitely the best option as it's the same thickness as...

    Block wall wetroom

That wet room former was the Impey Aqua Dec easyfit along with the Waterguard tanking kit. In my opinion they are one of the best out there. The former is 22mm thick, has an adjustable waste to avoid joists, they don't require any form of underboarding and will take up to about 300kg. With wet...

    Block wall wetroom

Instead of using cement boards use construction boards like marmox, wedi, jackoboard, STS or similar. The advantage of these is they are completely waterproof and don't require tanking, just tape the joints and screw heads. Use the opportunity now to level up and strengthen your stud wall and...

Why does tile Adhesive colour matter?

It doesn't really, especially not with ceramic or porcelain tiles as the colour won't bleed through. Grey adhesive will be fine, just work cleanly and make sure you clean excess adhesive from your joints as you go (I always have a bucket of clean water with a couple of sponges and a few cheap...

    Screed or Backerboard?

Partly, and also to provide a stable surface for the tile adhesive to adhere to. Don't ever use PVA when priming for tiling, it's water soluble and will deteriorate when wet.

    Screed or Backerboard?

.....also, don't forget to screw down the No More Ply or Hardibacker in addition to the adhesive, just follow their instructions. Good luck.

    Screed or Backerboard?

Looking closer at your floor it looks like the existing ply runs under the tiles on the other side of the door. If you're happy the existing floor is sound with no movement it would probably be better not to disturb it, otherwise you might have issues with the other tiles. If you're happy the...

    Screed or Backerboard?

Yes, that's exactly what I'm suggesting. The latest British Standards for wall and floor tiling recommends that the use of sheets or boards that are subject to moisture or movement should be avoided. It also states that plywood or other wood based sheets or boards should not be directly tiled...

    Screed or Backerboard?

6mm porcelain is thinner than the norm for floor tiles. It's imperative that your prep is correct to avoid any failure. It's a small area and completely empty so what I would do is remove all your floor coverings back to the joists and ensure they are all sound with no movement. If you suspect...

Can you tank normal plasterboard before tiling?

Tanking plasterboard is good practice if tiles are likely to come into contact with water, e.g. in a shower or over a bath. Moisture resistant plasterboard doesn't have to be used.

    Pvc bathroom panels

No trims for bottom edge that meets bath, just sit panel on a 2mm spacer whilst your adhesive sets and then fill joint with silicone.
