Lever taps in downstairs cloak room.

If I'm reading your posts correctly, you have bought a set of brand-new taps from Amazon; and having fitted them, they don't shut off the flow. If this is so, they are faulty, not fit for purpose, and should be returned to Amazon for either an exchnge or a refund

    Cost of Bathroom refurbishment

You need to ask this question of one or more local tradesmen - it's really not possible to price up a job on the internet, without having seen it

water meter, is is cheaper ?

I've heard it said that if your house has more bedrooms than inhabitants, then you'll save money using a water meter. This is because the charge for unmetered water is based on the rateable value of your property - so bigger houses attract bigger charges.

    Bathroom Hot water Tap Leak

[/url] Probably easier to make a couple of small holes in the kitchen ceiling (presumably plasterboard) with something like a bradawl or screwdriver, allowing any residual water to drain out. These small holes can then be easily filled with Polyfilla or similar, sanded and repainted.

Done everything - can't find problem

I had similar symptoms a couple of years ago - turned out to be the boiler thermostat had failed; leading to the boiler literally boiling the system water which then expanded violently up the vent pipe I think you need to get a Registered Gas Installer/Boiler Engineer in to fix this (by the...

    shower unit leaking

Unscrew the hose from the bottom of the unit and check the condition of the 1/2" flat rubber washer - it's probably misshapen. Replace, and if the joint still leaks, try two 1/2" flat rubber washers instead of just one.

    Honeywell programmers

Turn off power and test to ensure safe. Remove links; label remaining cores and loosen securing screws; remove ST699 backplate from wall; Attach ST9400c backplate to wall; connect cores as per instructions in Honeywell Installation guide (link posted previously). Job done!

    Honeywell programmers

No extra wires required - it's a straightforward replacement, and you can follow the wiring changes by looking at the Installer Guide here: http://www.honeywelluk.com/products/...Wired/ST9400C/

Re-route toilet overflow - routed in to conservatory!

I would forget about the external overflow altogether and fit one of these: http://www.screwfix.com/p/fluidmaster-push-button-cable-dual-flush-valve/51173 This flush valve overflows into the pan, and so no external overflow is needed. One of these will seal the now redundant hole in the...

    Honeywell ST699B programmer replacement

The ST9400A would indeed be a suitable replacement - changeover should be straightforward as long as you can follow Honeywell's detailed and clear instructions for wiring the new backplate that will be required. An even better choice to my way of thinking would be the ST9400C, which allows...

    Cleaning out cast iron boiler

The kettling in our boiler became progressively worse over some years, and last year I decided to try the DS40. Time will tell if it's a long-term solution - I imagine that the scale build-up will return over time, in which case I'll use DS40 again. Good luck with yours!

Potterton Netaheat - one for the GasSafes

I am NOT GasSafe - just a householder with a Netaheat Electronic 16-22 boiler. Ours was installed in 1988 when the house was built - we have lived with it for over 20 years now, and (touch wood) it's still fine. It has been generally reliable, needing - as far as I remember - only a...

    Cleaning out cast iron boiler

My Potterton Netaheat Electronic 16-22 boiler (which also has a cast iron heat exchanger) was kettling seriously - very loud banging and knocking which resonated through the pipework and could be heard all over the house. I used Fernox DS40, closing off all the rads and therefore circulating...

Chemical clean of system with Solar panels

Standard open-vented system on a Y-plan, with Ideal Classic boiler. Changed a TRV earlier this year, and noticed a lot of gunge in the water I drained out. Decided to carry out a chemical clean – which I’m fairly confident about – but what’s bothering me is the solar aspect of the system. As...

These are made by Opella, and the makers are aware that water hammer is a problem in some installations. They will provide a "prototype parts kit" free upon request - fitting this cured the problem for me. Try giving them a call on 01432 357331 -the replacement parts can be fitted in seconds...
