    Fencing in front garden

Generally speaking you can erect a 1 meter high fence to the front of your property. However we have all seen 2 meter high fences to the the front properties and truth is that no one at the council will be the slightest bit interested unless someone complains and then they will have to investigate.

Carpet ripped up, bitumen, asphalt (asbestos) subflooring?

I removed Marley tiles from my kitchen floor which revealed the black bitumen below. I was quoted a fortune to remove it all. In the end I sealed the bitumen with SBR then laid vinyl tiles with flooring adhesive. That was several years ago and not had any problems.

Sewage smell from kitchen sink (Ed.)

In my experience kitchen smells that are difficult to track down often originate from a washing machine drum or from the evaporator on a fridge or freezer.

    Noisy boiler

As it stops when you put your hand on the panel then it could be the catches on the boiler panel. Ariston type clips can get a bit loose with time allowing the panel to vibrate.

We've done squirrels, what about Pigeons?

The problem these days is that firing even a street legal air weapon in your garden is likely to get you a visit from a police ARU. Bring back the good old days when me dad used to pay me a shilling a go for shooting pigeons in his veg patch from the bedroom window using his old LR rimfire.

We've done squirrels, what about Pigeons?

Birds will always try to find their favourite nibble and chuck the rest on the ground which attracts the pigeons. I have found that partially filling the birdfeeder works quite well. The birds will quickly empty the feeder and then clean up the seed that's on the ground so there is not a lot for...

Flushing a 40 year old untouched heating system

If the system is oil or solid fuel and is working OK then I would probably just look for a more modern second hand replacement boiler and swap it over.

Oil boiler CH pipe work questions?

Well you can spend a lot of dosh and get a super duper system and that's for sure. Whether it's value for money is another matterr. Depending where the back boiler is installed it might be possible to remove it and splice a free standing oil boiler into the existing pipework. Quite a few second...

Well I certainly wouldn't recommend using Denso tape in that situation.

Badly fitted toilet - Advice needed

Well you could just wrap the spigot with hessian tape impregnated with boss white and ram the whole lot into the gap. Not something I would recommend but it's something you could do yourself without having to get the owners 'tradesmen' involved.

Amazon Hive Oil boiler with 2 pump

Some of those old systems had no control over DHW and you could get a situation where, if no hot water had been drawn off for a while, there was a risk of scalding.

Amazon Hive Oil boiler with 2 pump

You find on some old oil systems that the primary circuit often includes a towel rail or radiator typically in a bathroom. Sometimes this circuit is extended to provide radiators in remote parts of the house and a second pump is added. If it was done by someone who knew what they were doing then...
