    Best wooden stud detector?

Now I know that these are not the most reliable tool in the box! But does anyone know of one they think is quite good? I need to locate floor joists in a bathroom with 18mm chipboard topped with plastic lino. The chipboard is hardly nailed or screwed at all so finding metal is not going to be...

Which is the best sludge cleaner for boiler system?

The best cleanser is citric acid sold as DS40. But that needs to be used sparingly as it can cause leaks in an old system. The other types do not really dissolve the dirt and only make it mobile so it can be washed out. The plate HE can only be cleaned properly if it is taken out. Then about...

Help to understand quotes for new system boiler

Officially the new rads should be sized to heat the house with a flow temperature of only 50 C all ready to use a heat pump in the future. But as I said before the quotation should list each radiator size and make.

    Peugeot brake pedal rubbers?

Exactly. But one supplier showed rubbers for that model and not surprisingly they would not fit.

    Peugeot brake pedal rubbers?

Kwik Fit do a free exhaust inspection so took mine before the MOT. It was making a throaty sound so I wondered if there was any problem. But the inspector wanted to look at it without me there which I did not like. But he came and told me he cannot see anything wrong with it. I then went to...

    Peugeot brake pedal rubbers?

That is what I expected. But I cannot see any likely cause apart from a faulty wire! I know the switch is a common fault but that will effect both bulbs.

    Peugeot brake pedal rubbers?

The reverse lights are annoying for me because they are never powerful enough to give much illumination. However, I was stopped by police a few months ago to point out that one was not working and telling me to get it fixed before my next NOT. Thinking it would just be a bulb I only checked...

    Peugeot brake pedal rubbers?

Well I took it to a new MOT place recommended by a friend. He did not comment at all on the pedals. But did not seem to notice a problem with the reversing lights. These are on either side of the boot lid. I expected that the bulb had failed but the bulb and socket are fine. Does anyone...

AEG ELECTRIC OVEN DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK.

Yes, managed to use a screwdriver to open the door. The oven had been screwed into the kitchen unit. The owner found the receipt and I managed to activate the warrantee. Then I could get a warrantee visit. The fixer came on time today and not needing to diagnose the fault could just replace...

No hot water/heating plus leak on Myson MPE222 two port valve

You said that your new valve had leaked water into the valve head. That sounds as if the orientation of the valve may be incorrect or inadvisable. They should never be fitted with the head underneath the valve. They may be fitted with the water flow up/down but then any leaks from the seals...

Help to understand quotes for new system boiler

The radiator sizing is very important and is cost relevant. The latest regulations to size rads to suit heat pumps with a flow temp of 55C is very relevant for the future. You seem to be getting a lot done and so it is important to get it done properly. The TRVs could be cheap £15 ones or £30...

Converting bath shower to rain/drench? shower

You have not mentioned your hot water source. The design water flow rate might not be met from a combi boiler. Best to check the spec of proposed shower head and before buying it and to check the dynamic flow rate of your bathroom hot water supply.

    Mira Advanced Atl tripping

Could be a few issues there! I was asked by this nice lady about 90 y.o. why her shower was not very good. I showed her that her shower was designed for 14 litres per minute. But her combi boiler could only deliver about 9 litres per minute. And even less in winter when the incoming water...

    Peugeot brake pedal rubbers?

Yes thanks, those look just like my feet. Those cars mostly seem to have sold to women. Mine has a 2 litre engine and can accellerate quite nicely if I need to get away from anything.

Sewage / drainage run to septic tank leaks. Best option to fix?

I wonder how he will find the leak. My method would be to pull a plunger slowly down it until the water flow ceases.

Thanks for that. Seems as if I should take a copy to Hassan in case he is worried about it.

Sewage / drainage run to septic tank leaks. Best option to fix?

And what is the soil and how deep? My parents used to live in a house on sand and about 80m from the septic tank and I had some experience of pipework in that situation. Cheapest quote was obtained by finding a man sitting in a JCB doing nothing who wanted to earn a little bit extra.

Sewage / drainage run to septic tank leaks. Best option to fix?

It may be bog standard to you but it could be anything to me. I think that pipe designed for underground is usually UPVC and orangey in colour. It costs less that £10 per meter but then a little extra is needed for transporting it to site and jointing it. And of course testing it before...

Stuart Turner Pump - Replace Couplings

I would expect they come with the flexible pipes and the manufacturer chooses 15mm because they are far cheaper and better adsorb vibration.

    Peugeot brake pedal rubbers?

Well the car is designed to be a bit sporty and the pedals have holes in them. I did have another of the same model and neither of them came to me with rubbers! But how could I get a manufacturers statement that they are not designed to have rubbers?
