Now I know that these are not the most reliable tool in the box!

But does anyone know of one they think is quite good?

I need to locate floor joists in a bathroom with 18mm chipboard topped with plastic lino.

The chipboard is hardly nailed or screwed at all so finding metal is not going to be any use.

I got one of these off amazon picks up the nails/screws in the stud , much more positive than the electronic kind.
Mind you 18mm ply is asking a bit, but I doubt the other type will work at all.

Er yes.

But I did say that the chipboard is not screwed or nailed down.

So I am looking for an electronic capacitive type!

Anyone have any recommendations?

For what purpose? joists are often at regular spacing so tape measure will do it.

Should be able to detect screws or nails in ceiling of the floor below, plasterboard or lath and plaster
